| DevilKiller05-25-07, 01:21 PM | We had a question about the Constrict ability in our game recently. It got me thinking... The Nature's Warrior PrC from Complete Warrior gets a constriction ability which lets you add 1d8+(Str mod) to grappling damage while wilshaped into a form which has Improved Grab. What if the form you're in already has Constrict (Ex) though? Do you use the greater of the two values, or do you add them together? I can't recall the name of the class ability, but I'm pretty sure it isn't "Constrict" |

What if the form you're in already has Constrict (Ex) though? Do you use the greater of the two values, or do you add them together? I can't recall the name of the class ability, but I'm pretty sure it isn't "Constrict" Depends how it's worded ... if it's not "Constrict" and stats it's additional damage during a grapple, I'd allow it in addition to the Constrict ability .. If it is Constrict, however, then you'd just use whichever is better (I suppose you could choose which one you wanted to use ... after all, which is better: 2d6+5 or 1d8+8 ? ;) ) Just to avoid the discussion being derailed by my "rhetorical" question: 2d6+5: Low: 7 High: 17 Avg: 12 1d8+8: Low: 9 High: 16 Avg: 12.5 It's pretty much personal preference: Bell curve vs linear ... whatever .. they're pretty much the same ... :tiphat: (I'd probably take the d8 + 8 .. as I tend to roll better with d8s .. go figure) |

I just wonder if it should really be allowed though. I have mixed feelings on it. On the one hand this combination could inflict a lot of damage. On the other you've taken a semi-useless feat (Track) and lost a caster level to improve your grappling damage, and I see nothing in the rules to say it shouldn't work. |
