Take10d6Damage 05-04-05, 04:15 PM	How much stuff can a backpack hold? How about a sack? Or a belt pouch? A lot of my players keep their equipment in backpacks and sacks, but how much stuff can they keep in there?
Jaid 05-04-05, 05:01 PM	i would just apply the rule of common sense to this one. of course, it will change with the size of the backpack, even the person who made the backpack, how much you can fit inside. i would probably handle it much like a pack saddle... whatever won't fit inside you just strap onto the outside, and thus you can carry as much junk as your weight capacity will allow (although, once again, not all necessarily *inside* the backpack). However, if you really really want a specific volume, i am sure you could go to some online catalogues and look at some modern backpacks, and base it off of that. it just seems a lot easier to me if you handle it abstractly... "no, that seven foot tall mirror will not fit into your backpack, and neither will that statue or altar you bought for your character's shrine... you will have to use a wagon or something" or "sure, the statuette of Ehlonna fits into your backpack, and you wrap your bedroll around it to cushion it from damage." stuff like that. just keep it abstract. although, of course, this requires you always consider what is in their backpack when saying yes or no to putting stuff on the inside...
Cindre2000 05-04-05, 05:06 PM	I do it like this. 10 * containers weight. So that .5 lb belt pouch holds 5 lbs of stuff.
Santrilla 05-04-05, 05:16 PM	Check out this article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040406a) . It contains areas in cubic feet / inches for all the standard containers. Using that, I worked out that you could probably fit 2 or 3 potions in a belt pouch.
