Converting weapons damage size categories [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-27-07, 09:50 AM If you have a medium weapons that does 3d6 damage and want to convert it to a large "heavy" weapon, how much damage would it deal?

I am having difficulties converting it. Maybe my brain is just farting but, its not clear to me.

"Heavy" weapons are from Magic of Faerun. Gold or Platinum weapons are considered heavy.

09-27-07, 03:19 PM Thank you for the chart, but the real problem comes when I try and turn a large weapon into a large "heavy" weapon. "Heavy" weapons have their own little chart. It doesn't just jack the damage up one size category because that would be easy.

09-27-07, 03:36 PM First off, how do you have a medium weapon doing 3d6 damage? That's considerably more powerful than anything I'm aware of.

Secondly, it's easy to convert. First, use the size chart to make the weapon large(while there is no listed 3d6 medium weapon, 3d6 damage always increases to 4d6 in the chart, so that should be the indicator that a 3d6 medium weapon increases to 4d6 when made large). Then you apply the Heavy Weapon modifier, which states that each die of damage increases as indicated, and it shows d6's increasing to d8's.

So your Large heavyweight weapon will be dealing 4d8 damage.
