I just watched AVP the other day, and was completely enraptured by the predator's armor. bladed gauntlets, but as for the rest of it, no clue. could anybody give me a hand as for what kind of armor they're wearing? (basically any book). or how about homebrew stats for their kind of armor? because i don't have the time right now to look/think anything up.

Breastplates, nothing more, nothing less.
They had a hard breastplate with shoulders, some arm and leg guards, and that was about it.

It looked cool, but mechanically, it was just a breastplate.
Anything heavier would completely cover their skin, which their armor didn't do. The elder Predator at the end, he was likely wearing Half-Plate though.

ty. heh my problem is the pic of breastplate in the player's guide, looks nothing like it. but ya, makes sense. and the guy at the end, ya, i was thinking half plate too. how about the mask? what kinda enchantments? darkvision, maybe, and/or bonus on spot?

Yeah, the pictures of the weapons and armor in the PHB are all pretty far off the mark. Its usually better to just go from the descriptions. Description for the Breastplate says that its a hard metal shell around the torso, greaves, etc. Sounds a lot like what the Preds were wearing, just theirs was cooler.

As for their masks, they did two things.
1) They were studded with all sorts of displays and vision enhancement stuff. I'd probably say they take up the goggle slot, and grant +10 to Search and Spot, give Darkvision out to 120', and can use Arcane Sight and True Sight 3x/day.

2) Not as applicable in D&D, but the Preds also controlled their shoulder cannons through their masks. I dunno, maybe their mouthparts could be used to aim a little joystick or something. If you wanted to use that, I'd simply stat it up as a Wand of Searing Ray on a shoulder mount, and the mask gives UMD +20 in regards to activating the wand.

ya, though i don't think arcane sight. oh, and the invisibility could be as the ring of invisibility except... well, armor, not ring.

Its not real invisibility, as you CAN see him when he moves, so that sounds more like a Hide bonus.

Ah, but invisibility is a hide bonus, with the ability to hide without cover or concealment. Also remember that when you move, the hide bonus from invisibility halves. The shimmering predator/klingon warbird invisibility is always how I describe it in my game, at least once the invisible one has been seen...

The shimmering predator/klingon warbird invisibility is always how I describe it in my game, at least once the invisible one has been seen...Um... no, thats not how the spell works, in 3.0 or 3.5. Invisibility is being totally invisible. There is no hide bonus, they cannot see you, period.

As for where you're getting this "hide bonus from invisibility halves when moving" thing, I have no idea, its definately not in the book that I can see...

You have a point, with the humans being able to see them shimmery when they move, but I still don't think that's hide. Because with hide, they either see you, or they don't. I'd say concealment. Maybe concealment when moving and invisibility when immobile.
And ya, where does it say you get a hide bonus from invisibility? Or half-invisible for moving? i'm not trying to cut you down, but...

No, its Hide. Hide in Plain Sight, I think. And there is no 'hide bonus' while invisible. Just check the rulebooks.

As for the hide bonus when invisible, check the Hide skill (pg. 76)in the PHB 3.5 under the special section.

It all depends, if you check the SRD, it includes rules for spot, and says a DC 20 spot check can reveal the prescence of an active invisible creature, DC 20 for an inactive, still, invisible creature, and DC 40 for an inanimate invisible creature(golem, etc.) If you beat the DC by 20 or more, you can pinpoint the location.

I think it's probably more along the lines of noticing displacement the creature causes, footprints in dust, bent grass, etc, but if you want to change the flavor of it, you can use it as a sort of shimmer caused by the invisibility effect instead.

As for the hide bonus when invisible, check the Hide skill (pg. 76)in the PHB 3.5 under the special section.Gah, another thing 3.5 bent over and... nevermind.

What a complete load of crap.
Not only did they nerf the duration of the spell so that you could never use it for what it was intended for (sneak around), now they nerf it down to nothing but a frelling Hide Bonus?

Geez, and people wonder why I think 3.5 can go :censored: itself...
(and before anyone mentions it, 3.0 Spot description specifically says that a check of over 20 would let you be AWARE of an invisible creature, but not actually see it)

Ah, that would be why. I don't have 3.5 PhB. I've got a few other 3.5 books. Thanks Admiral. heh I've never liked the idea of hide in plain sight, besides which you take a huge penalty to hide when you move, and they don't shimmer basically any more than "normal" when they move. I still think concealment is the way to go, but am open to persuasion and arguments. hey, persuasion is a good song (Santana) lol.

Predator Armor is definately a breastplate like ed said.
Predator Armor
Breastplate +1, the predator's armor is equipped with everything that the intergalactic hunter would need. Life support functions, shoulder mounted blast cannon, invisibility, and intergrated claw bracers.
-At will - invisiblity
-At will - scorching ray (1 ray)
-1/day - cure moderate wounds
All these abilities function as if cast by a 5th level caster.

Also the claw bracer may be drawn as a free action and is treated as a large +1 punch dagger.
Faint evocation, illusion, and conjuration; CL 5th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Wonderous Item; invisibility, scorching ray, cure moderate wounds; Price 77,645gp

breastplate +1 - 1,350gp
Invisibility at will (5th) - 30,000gp (multiple abilties)
Scorching ray at will (5th) - 20,000gp
Cure moderate wounds 1/day (5th) - 4,000gp
+1 large punch dagger - 2,304g

Predator Mask
I think the mask, like most masks would take the google, lens slot. The predators actually have darkvision, although it'd probably be more like redvision.

I would say the mask grants a +5 bonus to spot and surivial checks for tracking. Also if would have be able to cast the following spells 2/day:
-see invisibility
-locate creature
-detect favored enemy (creature type chosen upon creation)

moderate divination; CL 7th; Craft Wonderous Item, see invisiblity, locate creature, detet favored enemy, clairaudience/clairvoyance, creator must have chosen favored enemy; Price 26,430...so round it to 26,500gp.

Eyes of the Eagle (+5 spot) - 2,500gp
Track bonus (+5 to only one application of the skill, half price) - 1,250gp
see invisibility 2/day - 5,040gp
locate creature 2/day - 10,080gp + 5,040gp (extra cost from multiple abilities)
detect favored enemy 2/day - 2520gp

Note: all abilities are at caster level 7.

Boy I was bored.

Homebrewed, amazing, I like it. If that's you bored, I'd pay to see you when you actually feel like working on this stuff:D. Mind if I use that in my campaign? Although I'd make a few changes (nothing major).
Scorching Ray on the armor, I would make it an item that can be added on. So it doesn't cost as much initially. That drops it to 57k
Not punching dagger. Bladed gauntlet.
And for mask: lol redvision. Thermal vision is what it is. Heat tracking.
I like the detect favored enemy, though I think it kinda makes the locate creature redundant. I'd say this stuff specialises in one creature, not the ability to find more, so I'd scrap locate creature. Even with that, I like it. Lots. And that drops it to 11k.
Heh if I seem stingy, it's because my DM doesn't hand out money very often =P

Homebrewed, I agree, that is quite amazing. Although, you notice that they can attack while invisible, so that would be greater invisibility at will. I also would make the Punching dagger a shortsword, as it really seems to be that size, and make it adamantine, as it seems quite strong. Looking at AvP, the scene where it slices clean through the alien's head without any resistance whatsoever seems like it would be bypassing hardness, as with adamantine.
