There has to be one because quite a few of them involve fractions of 1,000 gp; if the prices were just a 'ballpark' they would all be in flat thousounds of gp, if not tens of thousands. Does anyone know what it is?

There doesn't seem to be a straightforward formula when going from lesser to normal to greater rods, but at least they're consistent in pricing all "spell slot one level higher" rods the same as each other, etc.

Are you trying to set the price level for a metamagic rod not listed in the DMG or SRD? The only metamagic feat that defies pricing because the effect is variable is Heighten Spell, otherwise I'd allow someone with the requisite feats to create a Metamagic Rod, Still or Metamagic Rod, Explosive, for example, as long as they follow the pricing standards that exist for other rods mimicking the equivalent "spell slot x levels higher" feats.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why the DMG/SRD doesn't contain a Metamagic Rod, Still? It's the only metamagic feat from the PH (other than Heighten Spell) that didn't get its own rod...

Perhaps the reason for no still rod is because too many people would think you'd need to hold it to benefit.

Yeah I think a Still Rod would be useless, unless you carried it in your hand 24/7. Anyway, part of the reason that I want a formula is so that I can price metamagic rods that aren't in the DMG but I also want to price epic metamagic rods.

There are a few rods in Complete Arcane. As a rough guide, the price of any given rod is twice that of a rod with a metamagic feat of the same spell level increase from the DMG.

I suggest you use that as a rule of thumb.

Thanks, that helps with non-core metamagic rods. It'd still help to have a formula for epic rods.

Still Spell can be useful in situations other than being held or grappled! Urban or politically-oriented adventurers may find the ability to cast the occasional spell without the normal somatic movements to be very handy, and you can't always anticipate which spells should be prepared this way.

Strap it to your forearm, under your clothing. "I subtly fold my arms and look bored. Grasping the rod through my sleeve, I mutter a few words to myself as if complaining about the weather and the judge, but am otherwise as still as a tree."
