I play on a low magic where masterwork weapon are far more common than magic one, and i want to know how much would cost a masterwork +2,3,4 or 5 weapon.

In the PHB, they say that to be a masterwork weapon, they should cost 300 gp, but they don t talk about +2 or 3 masterwork one.

It's linear. Enhancement to +5 costs 50000. Masterworking a weapon costs 300. A longsword costs 15. A +5 Masterwork longsword costs 50000+300+15 = 50315.

DM Zoc, I think you misunderstood the question.

Scipion, in D&D, there is no such thing as masterwork +2 or more. Being masterwork gives a weapon a +1 to attack. No amount of craft or skill can increase the masterwork bonus above +1. Bonuses greater than +1 must be magical.

Some other D20 systems (notably Star Wars D20) allow for items to be masterwork +2 or more without being magical. That system is an alternate way of dealing with "quality" and is not used in D&D.

If you adhere to the general progress of bonuses then the cost of better masterwork weapons would be:

Masterwork Bonus squared * 300.

So, if allowed, a MW(+5) weapon would cost an extra 7,500gp. This is much less than a +5 magic weapon admittedly but a +5 bonus solely to hit that does not penetrate /magic DR and does not add to the hardness and HP of the weapon should cost less than a +5 enhancement bonus, its just a case of judging whether it should cost so much less.

It should also only ever be considered in a low magic world as it opens up the possibility of bypassing the downside of using weapon enchantments other than the straight plusses. A MW(+5) +1 Flaming Burst, Holy, Ghost Touch Longsword of Speed does get the +5 bonus to atack rolls for a low relative increase in cost.

Thx for your answer, while revising the PHB i was coming to the same conclusion that above +1 it doesn t exist, but wasnt quite sure. I think i ll stick with the square rule but making it as rare a +5 masterwork than a +4 sword.
