| Arvagor10-20-05, 10:21 AM | What would be the cost of a masterwork elvencraft (from Races of the Wild) longbow? I get the following: Longbow 75gp Masterwork +300gp Elvencraft +300gp == 675gp It has been suggested to me, however, that since an elvencraft bow can be treated as a quarterstaff for melee purposes, that I would need to pay another 300 to have "both ends" of the bow be masterwork. RotW, unfortunately, is silent on that particular point, saying simply that elvencraft adds 300gp to the cost of the bow. The main reason this is a concern is that, if I'm later going to have the bow enchanted for both ranged and melee use, I'll need to know how many enchantments to place on the bow, and there's a big difference (2300gp) between a +1/+1 elvencraft longbow and a +1/(+1/+1) one (this is gonna get real confusing, real fast! ) I can see both arguments: RotW uses the wording "as a quarterstaff", which is generally taken to mean "exactly the same as, and therefore in melee it's a double weapon, and requires MW on both ends. On the otherhand, it is simply a masterwork bow (which is not a double weapon), albeit a very sturdy one (courtesy of the elvencrafting) |

Otherwise it counts as masterwork bow, but not as a masterwork quarterstaff. Total cost for a single weapon enchanted as both a bow and a quaterstaff, +1 is: 300 gp for masterwork bow, allowing it to be enchanted as a bow. 2,000 gp to make it a +1 bow. 375 gp for elvencraft, allowing it to be used as a staff. 600 gp to make it useable as a masterwork staff, both ends 4,000 gp make it a +1 quarterstaff on both ends. Net cost: 7,275 gp for a weapon usable as either a +1 bow, or as a +1/+1 quarterstaff. |

So the only advantage to the q-staff aspect would be having multiple enchantments readily available and all in one weapon. The disadvantage is ... having all those enchantments invested in one weapon -- one well-placed sunder, and ... well, we know what happens after sundering... :weep: |

I'm thinking of (at least) one of the tactical feats from Complete Warrior (may even be a "weapon style" feat) that gives certain other bonuses when a staff is used in combat in a certain way... |

I dont see why it wouldnt work, its treated at a quarterstaff for all purposes it says..so i am sure the feats would work with it |
