| term205109-08-04, 09:19 AM | If i want to have a wonderous item (for example a foxtail) with fox cunning 2 or 3 uses per day, how much would it cost (market price)? I am not very well versed with the creating rules :(. Thx for your help. |
| Tevandel Surefacet09-08-04, 10:02 AM | Well there are two ways to price this - it is really a headband of int +4 in a different space with limited uses per day so (16,000*1.5/3) = 8,000 gp for a 3 use per day headband of int with a duration of 8 rounds per use (caster level needed for a headband of int) Or treat it like a command word activated spell use per day of a 2nd level spell cast by a 3rd level caster in a slotless item (*2), limited usage per day (/3) is (2*3*1800)*2/3 = 7,200gp for a 3 use per day fox tail of cunning with a duration of 3 rounds per use. MagicItems1 from the SRD goes over this in more detail. |
| tarkin09-08-04, 11:01 AM | Yes, the PHB lists multiple ways to price things. But they explcitidely tell you to NOT use the spell level x caster level way if there is a better way to do it. In a WoTC approved game, they would only use the the following method: Ability bonus (enhancement) : Bonus squared x 1,000 gp +4 x +4 x 1000 = 16,000 gp, for any permanent +4 bonus. x3/ day = 3/5 price = 8,000 gp. ------------------------- <Rant on> Only a munchkin uses the spell level x caster level when the PHB explictedly tells you to use another method instead. That is why fools think for 2,000 gp they can get a +4 Belt of Mage Armor that lasts for an hour, or a +4 Belt of Shield. Don't be a fool. <Rant off> |
| Tevandel Surefacet09-08-04, 11:56 AM | My main point was that the two pricing schemes give basically the same price, in fact if you do the price at the item's recommended caster level (8th) then the price of a headband of +4 int built with foxes cunning costs MORE (28800gp vs., 16000gp) and the 3 uses per day costs 9600. All of the non-standard magic items are DM's choice anyway so it is up to the DM in the specific game to figure out how much it costs and if it is available at all. <edit> I just noticed the munkin crack and that was completely uncalled for. The price works out to the SAME if the DM is careful, okay if you want a "belt of mage armor" to give +4 armor bonus fine - set the minimum caster level for the item. Sure it is cheap if you let them build it as CL 1 but what about CL10? (1*10*2000), gee then it is an 20000gp item. It is up to the DM to set non-standard magic item prices. I could see a 1st level belt of mage armor being usable once per day for 2000 gp. If you are going to open up non-standard magic items it becomes a balancing act to intrepret and guide the creation of magic items. Sure you can create broken magic items but that has always been possible it is up to the DM to approve the items she will let into her campaign. |
| term205109-09-04, 04:53 AM | Thx for your answers, i thought for a headband of intellect fox cunning wont be used, so my next thought was that a headband of int and a item with fox cunning would stack. Am i wrong? |
| tarkin09-09-04, 07:37 AM | They both provide an Enhacement Bonus to your Intelligence. Multiple Enhancement Bonuses to the same thing overlap, they do not stack. |
