Cost of Special Armor [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-09-04, 01:46 PM I have a question about the specific armors listed in the DMG. Specifically, the dragon scale armor costs 3300 gps, and is "identical to masterwork full plate" in every other way. Does this cost stack onto the cost of full plate (so 3300 + 1500 gps) like other magical properties (even though dragon plate is not magical)? It seems it shouldn't, but since the rules are a little ambiguous, I thought I'd ask all you experts.

2nd question: when calculating the cost of barding, you have to multiply the cost times two. *IF* the cost of full dragon scale plate costs 4800gps, which part do I multiply? The cost of the dragon scale, the cost of the plate, or the cost of both? 'Course, if the costs don't stack then this is a moot question.

for barding, figure out the total cost that you would pay for a normal suit of armor and double it. (base cost + extra for materials) x 2.

12-09-04, 04:41 PM Like they said, its listed as a specific item. They just said "its otherwise identical to full plate" as a way of saying "we don't want to take up the space reprinting something we've already printed".

X2 for odd-shaped

FYI - the only reason I could see for dragon armor is a druid who can't wear metal. However - in draconian (terrible spelling I know) I heard something about dragon armor being better.

12-10-04, 08:27 PM A horse isn't an odd shape. Knights frequently had their horse wear at least some armor, so to say armor for a horse is oddly shaped, well, is to say armor for a human is oddly shaped.

Its common, therefore it isn't oddly shaped.

12-11-04, 12:19 PM It counts as odd-shaped, since the standard shape is humanoid. Horse-shaped armor may be the most common odd-shape, but it's still and odd shape for an armor designed to fit a humanoid.

12-20-04, 05:00 PM the armor you want to make is failry simple. take the cost for full plate (1500gp) add the cost for masterwork (150gp) and then double it three times (once each for dragonhide, large, and odd-shaped). You should get a final price of 13,200gp. pretty expensive when the steel version only costs 6,600gp! remember that when you are doubling prices, they stack (that is two doublings is a quadroupling, not a tripling).
