Cost of weapon that includes a feat 'enchantment' [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have looked but have not been able to find how much adding a feat to a weapon should cost. Example: a dagger which also has the TWF feat 'enchanted' on it so a wielder effectively has TWF and can use the dagger in the off hand. (or perhaps has both TWF/ITWF?) This is a simple example, but are there any guidelines for creating such weapons, especially with multiple feats?

There are no rules for creating this. However, I can't see TWF being much different than mighty cleaving +1 level enhancement.

This issues was discussed on the Epic Boards awhile ago, and the price for adding a feat to a weapon was reverse engineered to 10,000gp (+10,000gp for any Prerequisite feat that the Main Feat needs).

Due te Epic multiplier rules, this puts the Price of an Epic Feat at 100,000gp (+100,000gp for and Prerequisite feat that the Main Feat needs).

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Interesting thread. They reverse engineered the "recommended" starting point for a item that grants a feat from AE&G.

Not to mention that many items have feats that are below and way above that price mechanic (meaning it needs to be based on the value of the feat) and the TWF/ITWF feats are quite valuable later on in the game (so would be of higher value than say Cleave.)

First, I really wish wizards would turn the search function back on, somehow. Second, would you have a link to the thread? At the price mentioned, it becomes rather exorbitant. (20K GP for TWF/ITWF?) Still, would like to see the thread so I can get more of an idea about how the pricing works.

Thanks!!!

I agree that WotC needs to stamp out some solid set in stone creation costs/rules. The ones in the DMG are good guidelines but (shrugs) they could be more concrete.
I found this item in the Magic Item Compendium:
Gloves of the Balanced Hand - If you wear these you gain TWF. If you already have it you get ITWF.
They cost 8000 to buy and 4000g 320 xp to make.
10,000 is close to the pricing but not the creation costs.

First, I really wish wizards would turn the search function ... would like to see the thread so I can get more of an idea about how the pricing works.

Search is on for a number of people.

It will be on for everyone so long as it isn't abused.

As for pricing, there are relatively good pricing rules right now, but they will never be cookie cutter style rules you may be looking to find.

The item creation rules are designed to price the item based on the power the item provides the player with the intent of limiting the item to certain minimum level requirements for purchase.

Hmmm ... should there be a search option then on my screen somewhere? I guess it is still in testing for some people. I am not exactly looking for a cookie cutter rule, but even an example of how to price out feats would be nice. The creation rules are not exactly simple, though they can be followed. I am just not able in the standard books I have to find any examples at all. That is what makes this forum such a great place because I now have some basic rules to use, and a book that provides an example (though I don't have that particular book).

Again, thanks to everyone for answering.

According to WotC, this is how to price non existing items (at least their 2007 policy with the invention of the MiC):

Take the proposed item and put it in the hands of the player designed around the item (the player it could most help in other words the best optimization of the item.)

Compare that item to what level the player should get the item. Should no player have it before level 10? level 20? level 2 is ok?

Once you have the level at which it is designed, look up the level on the wealth by level table. Say it has 100,000 gp listed at level X. Take 25% of that value, 25,000 gp. That is what the item should be priced.

Basically, the goal is to have a player have a hard decision each level. Every item needs to be a choice. If the item is a "no brainer" for every class or even most classes, it is too cheap. If it is a "should I really spend that much for that item? It sure is a lot.... Well, I think it might be worth it" then you have priced the item correctly.

The previous policy was "price based on existing items", then if that failed "price based on other items that do different things but are of similar power ratings", then if both of those failed "price it based on the charts in the back of the DMG" and adjust if required.
