| Someone08-29-05, 11:12 PM | You have to look at your number of Hit Dice. If your Con increases enough to change its ability modifier, you get a number of hp equal to that change in your Con mod times your HD. And yes, changes are instant and retroactive. |
| Dragonsblood08-30-05, 12:51 AM | Every even point of con gives you an extra hit point per level, retroactively (vs int which is not retroactive). So a level 3 fighter with 15 con might have 30 HP. When he levels up, he rolls a 5 for his HP roll, and puts his ability point in str. At level 4 he has 37 HP. If he desided to put his ability point in con instead of str, he would've had 41 HP. |
| SOKAR08-30-05, 01:15 AM | Yeah that's what i thought, but something i read somewhere said something that confused me. So a 2nd level barbarian who rages gains 8 hps? |
| Nom08-30-05, 01:40 AM | Yeah that's what i thought, but something i read somewhere said something that confused me. So a 2nd level barbarian who rages gains 8 hps?Con +4 is +2 hp per HD, so at 2nd level you'd gain 4 hp (both to total and current). And lose them again when you stop raging. |
| Dęгơs08-30-05, 01:41 AM | So a 2nd level barbarian who rages gains 8 hps? almost. your 2nd level barbarian would only get 4 HP, not 8. he gets +4 con which should bump up you modifier by 2, giving you an additional 2 HP/ level. other than that, thats exactly how it works- you just hit on one of the best reasons to be a barbarian. also, remember that con loss works just the same, only in reverse. that is, you instantly lose Hp whenever your con drops by enough to lower your con modifier. this is very important for the barbarian, as his hit points from raging are real, not temporary. that means that, while he is still raging, he can be healed to the new HP total, and when he stops raging, he loses any hit points he gained from the con bonus when he raged. this absolutely can kill your character, so make sure you get healed before you stop raging. |
| loylein08-30-05, 02:44 AM | A first level fighter rolls a 1d10 for HP Rolls a 10 CON score is 16 (+3) modifier. HP total is 13 Modifier only applies to the first HD or does it apply to every time he levels up until he changes CON score again? |
| Nom08-30-05, 03:45 AM | In general, total hp can be expressed as XdY + X * Con + misc bonuses. Thus, an ogre (4 giant HD) with 2 levels of barbarian, Con 18 and Toughness would have 4d8+2d12+27, where 27 is 6 (HD) * 4 (Con) +3 (toughness). |
| Arishem08-30-05, 11:06 AM | The character gains 1 hp for each + bonus of his con. He gets this every level. If his con changes, the bonus hp's he gets are changed retroactivly as well. So a lvl 1 char with a con of 17 (+3 bonus) would get +3 hp at lvl 1. He would keep adding +3 hp each level after that. If his con went up to 18 and gave a +4 bonus. He would go back and recaclualte the bonus hp from lvl 1. |
