| ShatterGod03-12-08, 02:48 PM | Alright I'm possibly going to be DM'ng a game with two guys neither of which really wands to run a Cleric or any other healingy character... but I would like them to have a healing option available for those ahh crap... moments. So I was thinking of creating a Sphere... and letting them find it rather early on... I think it'd scale with level and not be overly potent... but you be the judge. This... Cleric Ball... would allow a Spellcaster of any varieyt to convert any spell or spell slot into a cleric healing spell of equal level with an equal caster level (a fifth level sorc with cure light wounds would heal 1d8+5 for example...). Further they could cast any restoration or similar effect (neutralize poison and so forth) in the same manner. The ability to 'turn" undead is duplicated in the balls ability to project the characters very life force in a cone in front of the caster that does 1d8 damage per unmodified character level to any undead in the cone, will save for half... will save is unmodified character level. Each usage of the Sphere in this manner reduces the characters level by one for 24 hours ala energy drain. This drain cannot be cured by any means, but is not permanent and lasts 24 hours. |
| faghter_hero03-12-08, 03:25 PM | What's wrong with relying on potions, scrolls, and hirelings? They can do healing, too. |
| Kursk03-12-08, 03:32 PM | Could this item even be made? The DM can make anything he wants. |
| unundindur03-13-08, 12:26 AM | I once gave a very simple pearl of unlimited cure minor wounds to my group, to speed up the game. It worked very well. Your solution seeks fine by me, although I would remove the turn-undead thingie simply because there ought to be "some" drawback to not having a cleric around (and it makes the itmem all that more complicated). |
| TrackStar03-14-08, 12:38 PM | The turn undead thing ontop of healing basically makes a cleric pointless. Its kinda over powering since you sound like your giving it to them for free. |
| Mindolin03-14-08, 12:53 PM | I'ld just give them an item with infinite Cure Minor Wounds. |
| TrackStar03-14-08, 01:06 PM | that sounds so broken... make them pay for an NPC cleric or a wand or somthin. |
| unundindur03-14-08, 01:28 PM | that sounds so broken... make them pay for an NPC cleric or a wand or somthin. That depends entirely on the campaign. If for instance you are looking at a fast paced "one-week-war" or just have two players who want to have fun doing their deal then infinite healing between combat isn't a big deal at all. As long as it boosts the netire party its rarely a problem. The problem comes if you give an item that only boost one character, cause in-party conflicts are MUCH worse to handle than party-environment conflicts, as they are fully under control by the GM (yesyes, both are, but the latter is a simple cake). |
| Cifer03-14-08, 03:19 PM | that sounds so broken... Why? CMinW means it's not going to be used in combat and outside of combat... well, a single CLW wand is good for 275 hp and costs 750. Either the party is at a level where the monetary expense for it can be considered peanuts or they won't be that fast while burning through it. |
| ShatterGod03-23-08, 12:43 AM | yeah, the turning aspect IS pretty clunky. I'm not sure I WANT a cleric in my party... or perhaps even really in my game world. Clerics are typically either overpowered... OR... no damn'd fun to play. This takes them out of the mix. I think i'll add buffs to the Orbs abilities. Resistance to Fire, Deathward and so forth. |
