last time we played, the DM in my game wanted to use manyshot to coup de grace someone. I thought it would be impossible, because coup de grace requires a full round action to make one attack. Manyshot is a standard action. The DM went with what I said, but I would still like to hear the offical word on it, to remove all doubt.

Also, the coup de grace was with a bow of frost. In the description of manyshot, it sais that precision damage, such as sneak and critical damage are only applied to one of the arrows. Nowhere does it give a comprehensive list of what falls under precision damage, and nowhere does it give a general explanation of what precision damage is. So I was wondering if the frost damage counts as precision damage or not. In other words, does the frost apply only to each attack(roll) or to each arrow fired?

(With explanations on the why please.) :)

09-21-06, 09:33 AM precision damage is either sneak attack damage, sudden strike damage and/or skirmish damage, basically all the extra damage that rogues and rogue variants such as the ninja and scout do because they hit their opponent in critical areas. Bow of frost would add the extra cold damage to each of the arrows since it doesn't require precise aiming to get the extra damage off, same goes for any other enchantment you can add to the bow as well.

You can't coup de grace with manyshot for exactly the reasons you specified. There is a feat in complete adventurer that does allow you take a coup de grace as a standard action instead of full round action though, I believe it has improved initiative as a prerequisite.

09-21-06, 10:49 AM I don't see why you couldn't do a coup de grace with a Manyshot. Firing 2 arrows into somebody's neck from point-blank range would be just as deadly as firing a single arrow.

not if a person takes the time (a full round) to aim the arrow exactly at the point that will kill the creature, whether it be in the throat in the heart. Any standard attack action including manyshot is not going to be precisely enough aimed to take full advantage of the victims helpless status, so it would just count as a normal attack.

If you want to take good enough at coup de gracing people to do so as a standard action, then take the feat that allows you to coup-de-grace as a standard action instead of a full round action. Otherwise your just not considered to be skilled enough at murdering helpless people to do so in less then 6 seconds.
