Coup de grace question [Archive] - Wizards Community

No.

A touch spell isn't a melee weapon.

Neither it could be considered one for this purpose.

12-31-04, 09:04 AM Actually yes, if you have an helpless opponent, you could CdG with a touch spell (as you can even CdG a troll with a flask of acid, which isn't a melee weapon either)

12-31-04, 11:42 AM Spells that function as weapons (requires an attack roll) can crit, totally miss, Coup de grace, etc. When that freaking troll is finally Held, you better Coup de Grace it with Scorching Ray.

Even if you can coup de grace with a melee touch spell, I doubt it can be done with scorching ray, since you can only deliver a coup de grace with a melee weapon, bow, or crossbow, so a RANGED touch spell (even from 5 ft. away) probably can not be used.

Unless the coup de grace rules have changed, in which case - flame on! :D

So I would say, yes, you could use shoking graps to do a coup de grace.
About other spells, like scorching ray, hum, why not, but you have to be in melee range (like with bows and crossbows).
