12-09-07, 01:08 AM No, but it's kind of vague about it. It specifically says that you can use a melee weapon. And then it says you may use a bow or crossbow if you're within 5'. If you can, it'll only be with weapon like spells.

A coup de grace is a full round action, so casting a normal spell would be out anyway.

If you had a weaponlike spell(any spell which requires a touch attack, ranged or melee) that you were holding the charge on, such as Chill Touch or Produce Flame, or that could be cast as a swift action (by Quicken Spell, for example) I would allow you to use them to deliver the coup de grace as they count as weapons for all intents and purposes. I wouldn't allow spells which require a ranged touch attack, even if you are within five feet, because it specifies that only bows and crossbows can be used to CDG.

Allows you to CdG with ray spells or area spells that you warp into a ray.
Aslo you get Sneak Attack from 60ft with rays.

Full caster class too.(I belive AFB right now)

12-09-07, 11:39 AM I would allow spells that require attack rolls to be used to coup de gras. It makes sense to me, that if you have to aim it and you can get a crit with it that you can use it to murder some poor bastard. A ray of frost through the heart would kill someone just as dead as a dagger.

The spellwarp Sniper kind of clears the water. I can't believe I forgot it. Yeah, no CdG with rays, unless you take spellwarp sniper. You can with melee touch though.

deliver a coup de grace against an adjacent target wouldn’t be
an unreasonable house rule."

12-10-07, 10:34 PM Stop being lazy and jsut pull out your spell storing dagger. (if that's applicable) if not just do it with the dagger anyway.

12-11-07, 01:41 AM CdG is an auto crit/auto hit. There's a reason it's a full round action. But something like a level one spell at higher levels would be a nothing spell, and pretty much guarantee death.

Complete Scoundrel (or is it Mage?) introduces a class called something like the Eldritch Sniper, and one of its class abilities is to allow your ray spells to inflict coups de grace (and a few other goodies, I'm sure) ;) Hope this helps
