Each Covetous item functions aginst one specific kind of creature, such as; trolls, hobgoblins, or vampires: or aginst creatures of one alignment, such as Chaotic Evil. Any aplicable creature, upon seeing the item for the first time, must make a DC 25 will save or become obsessed with possessing the item. A sucessfull initial save renders the creature immune to this effect. A creature that fails it save remains obssesed untill death. Should the creature gain possession of the item, it may recieve an additional saving throw should the item prove detremental (Such as by being a cursed item, or an item with an opposed alignment ect). Additionaly a Break Enchantment spell ends the effect. Should the effect be ended by a secondary saving throw or a Break Enchantment effect, the creature must suceed on another DC 25 Will save 1d6 hours later, or become obssesed with the item agian (Likely going out of its way to refind the object if it had gotten rid of it). Any creature obseesed with the item who is engaged in combat with its current possessor must suceed on a DC 15 Will Save each round of combat or else attack the possosser of the item to the exclusion of all others for 1d4 rounds. All effects are Mind Affecting Compulsions Craft Magic Arms and Armor CL 18 Sympathy Opinions? |
| tyrecian02-07-08, 08:07 PM | methinks the save DC is far too high for the item. This might be more of an artifact ability than an actual enhancement that can be applied, since too many of these enhancements and the items are really going to get out of hand (imagine a wizard who has 4 or 5 of these items... baiting people into attacking him so he can use the self-defense plea). Reminds me of the one ring from LoTR :) It seems in itself to be a cursed property, which is why i would say that the save DC should be lowered... otherwise anyone who owned this object would get absolutely mobbed every time they were in town by every commoner out there. It seems to be a really good enchantment for a tank who wants to draw people into his shield, so maybe there is some way to cover it, so that it is sight only (like the power symbols) and can be shuddered or covered with a cloth or cloak. On edit: this item would restore balance to supah dupah high AC builds that deal no damage, but hope to take the aggro of creatures ant taunt them in a fight away from other party members... especially with the alignment issue, rather than creatures... if it could be enchanted say with chaotic and lawful evil (+4 bonus) so that a paladin AC tank build would be an awesome front man in hell. In that case the DC makes more sense (as well as the lvl necessary to enchant it). |
| wonlee7602-07-08, 08:39 PM | Seeing that Sympathy is the underlying spell, I would put a DC of 22 instead of 25. But otherwise I don't have a problem with it since its geared towards one creature type instead of anyone/anything that looks at the wearer. |
| ToastedAmphibian02-07-08, 11:38 PM | methinks the save DC is far too high for the item. The item is based of the Sympathy spell. That Spell has a Minimum DC of 22. Perhapes i should lower it to 22... A wizard has to be level 18 to make these. At that level wizards dont really need to plea anything... Ya i know, great isnt it? It seems to be a really good enchantment for a tank who wants to draw people into his shield, so maybe there is some way to cover it, so that it is sight only (like the power symbols) and can be shuddered or covered with a cloth or cloak. Perfectly legit tactic, the save is triggered upon first SEEING the object On edit: this item would restore balance to supah dupah high AC builds that deal no damage, but hope to take the aggro of creatures ant taunt them in a fight away from other party members... especially with the alignment issue, rather than creatures... if it could be enchanted say with chaotic and lawful evil (+4 bonus) so that a paladin AC tank build would be an awesome front man in hell. In that case the DC makes more sense (as well as the lvl necessary to enchant it). Exactly the Point. It says one specific kind of creature, or One specific alignment (I did put that in there right? If not let me know, I ment too) Its also a great way for a paladin to find people of a certain alignment. Its also a great way to tear appart a society from the inside. Wonderfull little anarchy causing civil war inducing gift. |
