| Kamelion11-03-05, 07:14 PM | Got a question that was put to me by a player - I can't decide on a sound answer (and can't find a sound ruling). Any advice would be appreciated :)... When creating a non-magical weapon made from a special material (for example, an adamantine longsword), how much do the raw materials cost for Craft (weaponsmithing) work? An adamantine longsword has an item price of 3,015 gp. Using the Craft skill requires you to pay 1/3 the item price in raw materials. So, is that 1/3 of the longsword price (5gp) plus 3,000 for it being adamantine (thus 3,005 gp)? Or is it 1/3 of the total item price (thus 1,005 gp)? Trying to reason this one out and getting a bit of a headache... |

That said it is slighly realistic that a dagger would cost roughly the same to make despite the fact that is like not even a third of the metal as a longsword. BUT for balance reasons, I would err on the side of er... well... balance. That that as you will. |

That was what I was leaning towards, but had been wondering whether adamantine's special qualities required a flat, unmodified rate due to balance reasons that couldn't be reduced with Craft (weaponsmithing). Anyone else with some light to shed on this? |
