What is the additional cost for crafting a construct which has been advanced (i.e. more than base HD)?

I know of know rule set out for all cases.

But there DOES exist a Stone Golem and a GREATER Stone Golem.

From the analysis:

regardless of type, you need to spend:
non-magical base item cost: 5,000 gp worth of stone plus DC of 17 in two craft checks (implied 7,000 for the Greater Stone Golem, but not clear)

Minimum 14HD, CR 11 =
90,000 cost, 50,000 to make+ 3,400 xp.

Maximum 42 HD, CR 16 =
196,000 cost, 105,000 gp to make + 7,640 XP.

Those numbers imply to me, that CR is the determining factor. 42 is much too much greater than 14 to just double the costs.

I estimate that total value is something along the lines of CR squared x 750 gp, with XP determined based off of that.

There's also:

Homonculous: +2000 gp/HD
Shield Guardian: +5000 gp/HD (plus an extra 20000 gp if it becomes Huge)

Hm. I just compared the Clay and Flesh golem. close in both HD and in CR, but huge difference in price.

I think that pretty much means you can't come up with a generic formula based on CR or HD for all constructs.

Instead, consider like +x% of original price for each HD improvement with a bonus for size increases

But that does not fit the Stone Golem mold very well.

I was afraid there wasn't a standard system.

The player in question is going to want to make a Brass Steed (Heroes of Battle).

Base HD 8, CR 8, price 19,000 (10,000 GP + 720 XP)
It can be advanced to 16 HD as a large or 24 HD as a huge construct.

He is a 15th level caster.

Does the level need to be higher for a higher HD construct? (Base CL is 8)

Suggestions?

There is no level difference in the requirement for Greater Stone Golem as opposed to a regular one.

I would probably charge him +3,000 gp per HD more, and an extra 15,000 if he makes it Huge.

This is because his creature is about the same CR as a Shield Golem, but about twice the HD.

2000 per HD seems the most common 'generic' number, with some that specify different ammounts.

Hommonculi and effigy creatures all follow that rule, and I cant name offhand, but I'm pretty sure I've seen the number on a few other constructs as well.
