I tried searching for this but was unable to find anything helpful.

Playing many archery type characters, carrying arrows or bolts gets a little tiresome to me even with a haversack and a quiver of Ehlonna. So I started looking into what it would cost to create a quiver that generated arrows as needed.

I have very little experience with the crafting rules, but this is what I came up with.

Using Major Creation as a base for the ability (and even that is a stretch, as the rules imply that the creation must all be made out of the same material and fletchings usually are feather and not vegetable or mineral matter) you get a quiver that costs 90,000gp (5th spell levelx9th caster levelx2000gp for use activated). Is such an item really that powerful, or am I missing some factors that could mitigate the price, or a lower level spell that could do the trick?

Quiver of Anariel:
Quivers of Anariel appear to be typical arrow containers capable of holding a score of arrows. However, the quivers automatically replenish themselves with standard or magical arrows, such that they are always full. Some quivers also create arrows made of special materials, such as adamantine, cold iron, or alchemical silver.

Once an arrow it taken from the quiver, it must be used within 1 round or it vanishes.

Moderate conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, magic weapon, minor creation; Price 28,000 gp (standard arrows), 29,000 gp (masterwork arrows), 32,000 gp (+1 arrows), 44,000 gp (+2 arrows), 64,000 gp (+3 arrows), 92,000 gp (+4 arrows), 128,000 gp (+5 arrows); Add an additional +6,000 gp for adamantine arrows, +4,005 gp for cold iron arrows, or +200 gp for alchemical silver arrows; Weight 1 lb.

There's a cheaper item(Quiver of Anariel) that produces endless arrows(but should be easily adapted to endless other things) and can produce magical and special material versions as well. It was priced at about 28,000gp 3.0's Quiver of Lies(in the Book of Vile Darkness) produces endless bolts or arrows as a free action for 12,000gp.

Thank you, for the information.

Now being greedy I have some more questions.

Would it be balanced to say that a quiver that produces +2 arrows, instead produces +1 Fiery arrows or some other such effect? Not an either/or thing, just this particular quiver costs 44,000 and produces +1 Fiery Arrows.

Now for the likely imbalanced desire. How much would be added to the price to allow the quiver to change the material of the arrows on command or a limited number of times/day?

I'd say 2 sp for a quiver with the bottom missing.

I was wondering the exact same thing myself. How much would it cost to have a quiver, lets say +2 bonus, to switch from say a Fiery Ki-Focus arrow to a shock ki focus arrow on a command?

Enhancement bonus with properties? If it's fixed, I don't see why not... I'd allow it. After all, a +1 Greatsword of Shock is the same price as a +2 Greatsword.

But as for changing the effects, I'm not sure. I can't think of any spell that would allow you to change the properties of a magic item like that that we could use as a base, save perhaps Wish or Contengency. But either way, you're going to tack on a pretty hefty coin to the quiver price.

Koretsu, I was more asking about a quiver that changed the mundane material of the arrows, adamantine, silver, cold iron, normal, etc. I'm not sure if that is what you understood or not. While I still believe it is likely overpowered and/or expensive I thought I would see what others thought.

Changing the enhancement as Rykler suggested definitely seems overpowered. The only weapon I can think of that has the ability to do so is a Mind Blade and it takes 8 hours to make the change.

i would say that an additional 12,000 gp to the base enhancement bonus price would let you change the material of the arrows (6k gp for the adamantine, another 6k (x1.5 normal) for the cold iron, the alchemical silver price is pretty much nothing). i'm not using any formulas that would work for all items or anything, but it sounds good in my head for what you're getting.

Well it says it is capable of holding a score of arrows, right?

a score is 20 arrows. So if you could say divide the quiver into 4 slots each holding 5 arrows, you could get 20.

5 arrows cold iron, 5 arrows adamantine, 5 standard arrows, 5 arrows alchemical silver

the thing is, you would have to pay for each in full. Now division of prices. It would come out to: 28,000gp(standard arrows) + 6,000 gp(adamantine) + 4,005 gp(cold iron) +200gp (alchemical silver) = 38,205gp (if i can do math correctly in my head.)
so the price is inbetween a +1 arrow and a +2 arrow bottemless quiver. I see this as quite fair. You just cant draw more than five arrows of a given type in a given usage.
