Harker Morment 09-13-04, 12:47 AM	I was curious; what exactly is the speed modifier for crawling? This recently came up in a gaming session I was in, and the PHB and DMG seem strangely silent on the matter. A quick synopsis of the incident goes as follows: Player A: trip attack against Player B (success!), moves 20 ft. (AoO misses). Player B: (though prone, asks why he should bother wasting a move action standing) moves 30 feet and attacks while prone. Attacking while prone has clearly defined penalities as defined in the PHB, but moving while prone? I've heard crawling is limited to a 5-foot move that provokes, but I cannot find anything *official* on crawling! What should I rule? I'm looking for the rules as they are written, not opinion or common sense please. If no rule can be produced, then *I* will rule using common sense. :D A hearty thanks to anyone who can answer this question!
Sssargoth 09-13-04, 12:59 AM	There is no offocial rule on crawling, but don't let them move more than half speed, and thats only if they fell on their stomach.
P___N 09-13-04, 07:48 AM	From 3.5 SRD: Crawling: You can crawl 5 feet as a move action. Crawling incurs attacks of opportunity from any attackers who threaten you at any point of your crawl. in 3e there is no mention.
Mirtek 09-13-04, 12:34 PM	According to the latest Sage Advice from Dragon Magazine you can try a tumble check to avoid provoking an AoO while crawling, just like you can while moving normally
Simetrical 09-13-04, 09:00 PM	Why is the speed only 5 ft., though? Is 10 ft./6 sec. (assuming a double move) really a realistic estimate of crawl speeds?
