I'm jumping into a friend's game where the characters are 8th level, and I want to create a L6 Fighter/L2 Sorcerer Human. I can figure out everything but equipment: what kind of equipment is standard for a character at that level? Is a +3 weapon ridiculous?

Thanks in advance for any help.

A +3 weapon would take a significant amount of the standard gold assigned by level, in the DMG.

If you're making high level characters and you're allowed to pick your magic items, the DM should be giving you access to that book, and let you know how much money you have to spend.

it's at the discretion of your DM, but one thing i do when making characters over 1st level and dealing with character wealth by level, is set a certain % of their total amount they can spend on any one item.

i suppose some people might wanna just spend all that on one really nice item. but, in general, any character that really adventured long enough to be that level is going to have a number of goodies, not just 1 or 2 really nice ones.

character wealth by level is pg 135 of DMG, btw.

our group's method is no more than half starting gold on any single item, minus physical expenses. (we dont count the masterwork and sword costs into a magic sword, etc. I'ts so you can still buy stuff like a suit of MW full plate if you'd like, assuming you can afford it)
