| Jere_RB06-01-06, 10:38 AM | Trying to nail down the cost to buy a Ring of Wraithstrike, activated by swift action. I am thinking of either a 3/per day version or unlimited. What would be the GP cost to purchase one of each? |
| DarknessEternal06-01-06, 10:52 AM | 10 gilllion gold pieces. If you want a more viable, less game-breaking way of achieving your goal, get a Ring of Spell Storing, a Wand of Wraithstrike, and some ranks in Use Magic Device. |
| SoldierOfFortune18706-01-06, 11:12 AM | This seems to be the hot new spell from all the recent discussions I've seen quoting it... from a sourcebook I do not own or have access to. While from what I gather it causes quite a deal of havoc to opponents who pride themselves in high AC's and is a very low level, I have none of the specifics. Anyone able to enlighten or at least point me at a source to read myself? |

| DrMorganes06-01-06, 11:20 AM | I'm not sure if the magic creation rules have been updated at this point to include Swift activation. Assuming not, you're still stuck with a standard action to activate your magic item. Reference standard item creation rules for the cost. If so, you're probably looking at a HUGE cost multiplier. From what I've seen, Swift and Immediate actions are generally limited to interrupt-type spells or spells that give one-round combat bonuses to hybrid casting classes (like Ranger and Duskblade). Building such ability into a ring would have major ramifications in-game. Limiting to three uses per day is probably a good idea. Unlimited uses I'd never allow in a non-Epic item (c.f., Ring of True Strike). |
| SoldierOfFortune18706-01-06, 11:29 AM | complete arcane swift action, lasts 1 round, all melee attacks are touch D'oh! Yeah, keeping it to once a day might at least put it in the realm of possibility, because no DM will/should let something like that slide in a multi-use item. Like said above, some effects are simply too game-altering to start doling out in items. |
| tarkin06-01-06, 11:32 AM | 1) This is a purely weapon ability. As such it should be enchanted only IN the weapon as a +x, not on a ring. Out of a weapon it should be about 3x as expensive as the equivlent power 2) A very similar weapon ability already exists for unlimited use. It is called BRILLIANT. Cost is +4. Minimum cost for a +1 Brilliant weapon is 50,000 gp. If you wanted a 3/day swift action activating, lasting for one round, version of Brilliant, I could see doing it at a cost of +1 Wraithstrike is much better than Brilliant, it ignored Natural AC as well as Metal armor. I could see a 2/day version of Wraithstrike, activate as a swift action, lasting for 1 round, as a +1 enchantment. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland06-01-06, 12:51 PM | Buy a brilliant energy weapon, because the DM shouldn't be allowing the spell in the first place, much less items of it. |
