| Jerek09-07-05, 02:48 PM | In our campaign our GM occassionally allows us to create items providing they are not too overpowered, and he has no problem telling us no, if he feels that the item would give us too much of an advantage. My question is in regards to "Sacred" bonuses. It says in the DMG that "Sacred" bonuses can grant +AC but it doesn't give any guidelines as to what types of items it can be used on, or if it's simply "Sacred" spells that can give an +AC bonus. What I'd like to know is whether the rules allow for an item such a "Sacred Ring of Protection" that grants a +2 "Sacred" AC bonus. I think my GM would have allowed such an item if we could have found rules allowing it, but because of the vagueness he decided that my paladin had to pick something else to purchase. So I guess I want to know is whether a ring with that type of bonus is possible or whether I'm just reading more what I "want to read" than what the rules truely allow. Thanks |

| Vharuck09-07-05, 02:57 PM | You would price it at the standard rate for a Ring of Protection that gives an equal amount of +AC, but then you have to add onto that (50%, IIRC) since it is an unusual bonus. These rules were to allow stacking for insane bonuses, but still make the players pay out the nose for it. |

This item would be MORE useful than the usual deflection bonus because of its stackability. The +50% increase in cost (like the nonstandard body slot penalty) seems very appropriate. |

It seems clear that a Sacred bonus to AC should use the Bonus squared x 2,500 gp instead of the Ring of protection x 2,000 or the armor x 1,000 price. +1 Ring of Sacred Proection costs 2,500 gp. +2 = 10,000 gp + 3 = 22,500 gp +4 = 40,000 gp +5 = 62,500 gp |

| minowicz09-07-05, 04:47 PM | So a +2 Shield with a +2 Sacred bonus in addion would cost. +2 light steel Shield +4,159 Sacred 4*2500 *2 (Multiple abilities) 20,000 24,159g for and add +5 to AC???? |
| jaelis09-07-05, 05:22 PM | In your shield example, shouldn't it be +4000 for a +2 shield, and then +20000 gp for the +2 sacred bonus, to get 24000 gp for a net +4 ac bonus? That's reasonable enough. A plain +4 shield would be 16000 gp, you need to pay extra to get the sacred bonus. |
