| Vash_HS05-21-07, 11:20 PM | I want to buy a rod that has the effects of a Least Rod of Eldrich Power, a Warlock's Scepter and a Rod of Magical Precision. Would I add the prices for the individual items together or do I have to do more. Also how would I decrease the price for a Warlock's Scepter if I use a version that is only +1 or non-magic? |
| RavenDrake05-22-07, 12:57 AM | Generally speaking, when you add multiple effects together you take the price of the highest costing effect and add to it 150% of the price of each additional effect I believ. I would calculate thier weapon costs(if any) seperate from their effects as rods. Edit: Found them... didn't think I had my Complete mage handy. Ok: Magical Precision is 12,000gp. Least of Eldritch Power is 4,000gp. And Warlock's Scepter is 28,000gp. If we assume that the cost of the Warlock's Scepter power is simply added as is to the magic weapon cost then it's 20,000gp(plus 8,000gp for a +2 weapon) which is, I believe, how rods are handled. That means that the Warlock's Scepter power is the most expensive. We take it's cost and combine it with 150% of the cost of the other two items(18,000gp and 6,000gp, respectively) for a final total of 44,000gp. If you want the rod to count as a weapon as well, you can add the cost of enhanceing it onto the value. Keep in mind that this would be a bare minimum cost. I'm not absolutely positive if I got the calculations right, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be any less expensive than this. And, as always, you'll need to consult with your DM to see whether he or she would allow such a custom item into the campaign. |

| mvincent05-22-07, 12:33 PM | Here's the rules reference (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm#addingNewAbilitie s) (if desired): "Adding New Abilities A creator can add new magical abilities to a magic item with no restrictions. The cost to do this is the same as if the item was not magical. Thus, a +1 longsword can be made into a +2 vorpal longsword, with the cost to create it being equal to that of a +2 vorpal sword minus the cost of a +1 sword. If the item is one that occupies a specific place on a character’s body the cost of adding any additional ability to that item increases by 50%. For example, if a character adds the power to confer invisibility to her ring of protection +2, the cost of adding this ability is the same as for creating a ring of invisibility multiplied by 1.5." |

I don't see it in the board's Dictionary of Terminology (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=109235). Update: ah... "Magic Item Compendium". Dunno, I don't use it. |
