Creating a Staff [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-17-05, 09:18 AM A question about staff creation. Given the rules in the DMG, a Staff of Fire should be created as follows:

Wall of Fire = (4*8*375)/2 => spell level*caster level*375, uses 2 charges
Fireball = 3*8*281.25
Burning Hands = 1*8*187.5

Now, I've never been very good at math, but I think that comes out to 14,250 gp, but the DMG lists it as 17,750. Any help would be appreciated.

11-17-05, 01:59 PM Yes, you got the right price at 14 250gp for construction, which would mean 28 500gp as the market price. The Staff of Fire, along with a few more pre-made ones in the DMG, isn't properly priced. This was either done for some messed up idea of balance or it was a mistake they've decided to not correct.
