Creating dragon hide Armor [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-01-07, 02:50 PM I have the hide of a young adult green dragon(size large). I am going to have it made into armor. Where do I find the stats for it or what are the stats for it?

But not, you will not like it.

Officially, the only benefit for having armor made from dragon hide is that Druids can use it.

Otherwise, it is just normal armor, Full Plate at best, often worse.

It is abased on the size of the beast and the size you are building for. One size smaller (like from your Large beast to a human sized creature) gives you armor that is...

Hide Armor

OK, so it looks really COOL Hide Armor, but that is all. And you also geta Shield out of it.

To get the Full Plate that Druids want so badly, you need a Dragon 4 sizes bigger than the armor. If you are Medium sized that is Collosal. If you are Small, that is only Gargantuan.

03-01-07, 03:21 PM Okay so it is just stated just like hide. I did not know if it inferred any of the protections the the dragon had. The reason I asked is that I could not find it in the DMG. The only section I found was the part you had about the creation of the armor. Bummer!! I was hoping for better than Leather +5 once I got it enchanted.

Armorsmiths can work with the hides of dragons to produce armor or shields of masterwork quality. One dragon produces enough hide for a single suit of masterwork hide armor for a creature one size category smaller than the dragon. By selecting only choice scales and bits of hide, an armorsmith can produce one suit of masterwork banded mail for a creature two sizes smaller, one suit of masterwork half-plate for a creature three sizes smaller, or one masterwork breastplate or suit of full plate for a creature four sizes smaller. In each case, enough hide is available to produce a small or large masterwork shield in addition to the armor, provided that the dragon is Large or larger.

Because dragonhide armor isn’t made of metal, druids can wear it without penalty.

Dragonhide armor costs double what masterwork armor of that type ordinarily costs, but it takes no longer to make than ordinary armor of that type.

Dragonhide has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.
It's in the SRD in the "Special Materials (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialMaterials.htm)" section. I don't have my books with me, so I can't dig up a page number for you.

EDIT: Oops. Didn't notice Tarkin gave you a link to the same info I posted. Ah well, better to have too many correct answers than not enough. :)
