there are a few items around that grant a bonus feat- some are easier to price then other- like dodge could be like +1 ac. But how would u price other feats?

I would check out the Epic SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicArtifacts.html) for intelligent items, which lists the general cost for placing a feat in a magic item. This is listed under the intelligent item primary ability table, where the prices vary from 2,000 gps - 10,000 gps. Of course, by putting a feat in a magic item, it usually costs 10,000 gps a pop.

:b: When a PC want one I use the following

Here is my formula:

The feat starts at 5,000

For each prerequisite feat add 2,500

For each prerequisite stat score add 2,500 for every 2 points above 10.

For each prerequisite BAB add 1,000 per +1

DM adjust price has they wish

You don’t get to use the prerequisite feats, just the end feat. You could add that feat to the item, but increasing the price at the same time.

It’s not perfect but it gives a good base price. Always consider how useful the feat is when pricing it. It just might be worth less than 5000.

Demon Boy's pricing method is not worse than any other I have seen.

But it still is unworkable in my mind.

Consider the following feats:

Dodge
Skill Focus (Profession: Scribe)
Skill Focus (Use Magic Devices)
Combat Reflexes.

OK check the pre-reqs. None.
So they should all be priced the same? Bull crap.

Skill Focus Scribe is weak, worth no more than 100 gp
Dodge is basically +1 untyped AC, worth 2,000 gp.
Skill Focus Use Magic Devices is medium, worth probably over 2,000
Combat Reflexes is VERY strong, worth more than 5,000 gp.

Also, Demon boy left out the question: Does the item grant you a feat if you don't have the pre-reqs. Granting the other feats is a secondary issue - the first question is far more important.

Granting someone Whirlwind is worth a lot.
Granting someone Whirlwind that does not even have Dodge/Mobility/sneak attack, etc. is worth a LOT MORE.

Basically, I have to say, that while Demon boy did a good job, the the task is just WAY more complicated than he thought.

Spells etc. are easy to price because they are very well levelled, and have clear power increasers, and no pre-reqs.

Feats are very difficult to price, that is why you can't find a good method. I would suggest that you use his method very sparingly, and only as a starting point. I would expect the final answer to be VERY different from what his overly-simplistic method said.

I think SKR uses a base of about 6000 gp for wondrous Items that grant feats.

Seriously, just look at the magic items in the PHB. There are several that grant feats or bonuses equal to feats. If they grant an Unnamed bonus, just double the cost and make it cost as much as an insight bonus, sacred bonus, etc...maybe triple it if you are worried about some power gamer stacking stuff.

Seriously, use rule of thumb. There's already weapons which do mighty cleaving and the like...adjudicate the effects, look for official stuff that does the same thing, and go from there.

So, to understand what you are saying, you're going to completely ignore that adding a +3 to a skill costs the bonus squared times 100?

This means that at the very, very least, the skill focus feat should be 900gps.

In addition, any item that isn't intelligent is only mimicking the feat, while intelligent items allow the wielder to use the feat, but not allow them to put it in their list of feats. This means that if you have the dodge feat from an intelligent item, you cannot use it as a prerequisite for the feat: mobility.

The SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicArtifacts.html) lists some rules for epic intelligent items conferring feats to their wielders, as well as the Arms and Equipment Guide. Also, it is worth noting (according to the SRD (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/epicMagicItems.html) which states that: “Even an epic magic item can never grant a dodge bonus”) that unless you place Dodge in an intelligent item, you cannot get it from any other source.
