A magic item should first be priced in accordance with other similar items, or priced according to it's function. Boots of Flying: Now flight is a very potent ability, which makes both combat and non-combat areas(like traps) much easier to navigate. Putting unlimited flight into the hands of a PC is tricky, but let's take a look at what the forumla gives us. Spell level 3rd x Caster Level 5th* x 1,800gp for Continuous** x 2 for 1 min/level duration gives us a price of 54,000gp, putting this item well out of the price range of most lower level characters. Considering that usefulness of unlimited flight, I think this is closer to the right price. Compareing to other items, like the Cloak of Flying at 54,000gp, tells us we've hit the jackpot. Unlimited boots of flying are approximately the same item, minus thematic differences, giving us a price of 54,000gp. * When pricing unlimited use items for the formula, I always set the caster level to the minimum to cast the spell, 5th caster level in this case since it's a 3rd level spell. There's no hard and fast rule about caster level, but It stops that "well, we'll just do caster level 1" shenanaigans to cut the price down. Protection From Evil This one's a hard one, because it's only a first level spell, but it's usefulness farovershadows priceing it as such. (compare the Continuous True Strike item at 4000gp, or the continuous Shield item). Pricing for this item as a continuous item will be tricky because of the highly varied nature of the effects... I'm not even sure i would allow it at all.
