I have a druid, and would like to create a magic item that replicates the class feature of a level 8 daggerspell shaper to allow my druid to retain the use of magic items that he is wearing, but am unable to find any reference to what it would cost to make, or have produced, except this: In the "rules of the game" section on the wizards site they have a seven part series on creating magic items. Refering to part six about prereqs for creating an item:
Effects You've Never Seen Anywhere: A small number of magic items have powers that don't have any parallels elsewhere in the system. The bag of holding and similar items, such as Heward's handy haversack, are prime examples.

When an item doesn't do anything that can be easily compared to a spell, you should compare your item against other items that seem to do similar things, and set the caster level appropriately. If you still don't have any idea of how to set the caster level, use the minimum character level required by the particular item creation feat necessary to make the item.

Part seven focuses on the cost of the item, which really is what I am looking for here. Here is the link http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20050118a

Anyone have any ideas?

There are already several items the give this ability. The Wilding Clasp (Masters of the Wild, probably reprinted elsewhere) is a magic them that lets things like cloaks and necklaces retain their funtion while wileshaped. There's also the Wild armour enhancment which allows you to retain the use of your armour while wildshaped.

The wilding clasp costs 4,000gp, but only allows you to retain certain items (cloaks, vests, amulets, neckalaces, etc...). Plus, it only functions for a single item.

The wilding armour is a +3 enhancement bonus cost meaning the cheapest it's available is for 16,000gp, and it only functions for the armour or shield it enhances.

So, depending on what exactly you're looking for, we can start with those as a base rather than try to reverse engineer a class ability into a magic item.

The one class ability item I remember off the top of my head is ring of evasion (2000gp). I for one would probably not allow such an item/feat in my campaign as it removes the one big disadvantage of wildshape. Note also that even that ability only works on magic items that grant an enhancement bonuses to physical traits.

If I was you, I might allow things crafting of items like Ioun Stones that don't take a slot to function. They cost double since they don't use a body slot. It would limit what a druid could afford to do.

Just my :twocents:.

RavenDrake has the best suggestion, there are a few different weapon and armor enhancements that allow equipment to be used while wildshaping.

Replicating a class feature is best comparable to items that replicate feats- most examples of which require the crafter to possess the feat, except in cases where required spells involved can 'reasonably' be bent to grant the same effect in an item- sometimes both.

The example I've dug up so far of class features themselves replicated/enhanced is actually right in the DMG: the Monk's Belt.
Grants the AC and unarmed damage of +5 monk levels. CL 10th, requires righteous might or Tenser's transformation. Market price of 13,000 gp.

Since it isn't directly covered, let's just decompile it roughly..
CL 10 for 5th level abilities without possessing them yourself.. at first I almost said 16th for 8th- but this is a prestige class, what level would be reasonable to gain entry in the class?
Next you need to figure out spells that could 'reasonably' replicate the effect you want, suggest looking over the requirement for those wildshaping enhancements.
Price is tricky, as with all 'nonstandard' wonderous item abilites. Likely the price of the belt is off-set by the requirements to be unarmed and unarmored to make full use of it, which you seek the opposite to be able to use an ability while making full use of equipment.

Hrmm, if they really want the same ability, probably better off seeing if an 8th level daggerspell shaper is willing to be part of the creation process. Though what would they want to help give someone access to abilities they had to fight and claw their way up to is another question. (*ding* A Quest perhaps? *crowd cheers* ;) )

If we had a more complete idea of what you were intending to keep(absolutely everything period;l certain specific items that will help you; absolutely, totally, without a doubt this one thing and maybe one or two others) it would be easier to build an item.
