| Jack of All Trades08-30-07, 11:06 PM | I plan on playing a gish that crafts his own custom weapons and armor and wondrous items( so its kind of cost sensitive), and I'd like to create some custom gear... so I have a few questions. 1. I'm not sure if I'm going to use a morphing spiked chain, a custom rule bending greatsword, or just use multiple weapons so that I can change damage types. Obviously the latter is more expensive but it can take advantage of one extra damage dice (ie. shocking, frost, etc). 2. I've heard a pommel smash does d4 x20 bludgeoning damage? Is this true? Also does it technically count as a double weapon and need separate enhancement costs? 3. My friend had a boffer (toy) greatsword with an extend ricasso in it. It allowed one to poke with it. Although its not the real thing. I'm thinking something like this, if used with both hands would make for a piercing weapon d6 like the shortspear. Would this be a fair assessment as well? 4. Would you recomend going with a greatsword that has all three damage types and enhancements like corrosive, flaming, sonic, vampiric, etc., a morphing spiked chain, or just forking over the extra gp and xp for extra weapons? 5. Which additional damage enhancements are the best to stack on a weapon? You may want to consider the build I'm using gives 9th level spells at caster level 17 (+practice spell caster for 20) as a wizard so I'll be able to add any number of spells to enhance on the fly. I know this is power gaming. It's cheap and incredibly dirty and it would **** just about any dm off myself included. However my dm wants me to do this so that I can betray all the other players. It just needs to be by the rules so they can't b*tch about it too much. So I was considering things like spring attack/bounding assault/rapid strike and whirlwind attack with an enlarged person-spiked chain combo. All paired with quickened true strikes, wraith strikes, arcane strikes, haste and the other gnarly gish tricks. I think I've covered the best way to really screw up the party considering they won't see it coming. I'm mostly wondering what kind of weapon enhancement will work best with this tactic and still be effective for regular gameplay? |

It sounds like the kind of thing you would get from a FEAT (I know there is one that lets you use the hilt of a longspear as a club). It would be very overpowered to give that feat for free. There is a WoTC rule for using the flat of your blade. That is a very different thing. 3. Sounds like you want to create an Exotic Weapon. Write up the whole thing and we can comment on it. Hint, If you want the pomell attack to be powerfull, start with a Simple weapon as your base weapon. If you are OK with it being weak, start with a Martial weapon. 4. Extra weapons. It makes Disarming you/sundering your weapon less of a horrible thing. 5. Really depends on your build. For a Two handed fighter type, go for things that do CON damage. But you are a Gish. Go for Spell Storing weapon, you can fill it yourself. (Note, you still use minimal caster level/DC) |
