Feng 12-28-04, 09:21 AM	Im not sure if the rules clearly indicate one way or another, but as a group we have settled this matter but im not sure we are being accurate. If a character has a +1 longsword and wants to upgrade to a +2 longsword, does he have to sell the +1 sword, receiving half the value, then buy a +2 longsword at full price? OR is it possible to upgrade the magic weapon, paying the difference between the two values? I know you have to be careful about the difference (for example, going from a +1 weapon adding a +3 ability effectively makes it a +4 weapon). This doesnt just apply to weapons (but I couldnt figure out which message board to put it on), you could also apply the same question to rings of protection or frankly any magic item that gets incrementally better. Thanks in advance for any advice and play well!
quatrilien 12-28-04, 10:14 AM	The DMG does actually say how you can go about upgrading your magical weapons. It's on page 288. As you have speculated, the cost is basically the difference between the newly upgraded weapon and current weapon.
