I've been looking through the DMG rules and I haven't been able to find it, so it might be a 3.0-->3.5 change. |
| Derren S.01-20-05, 09:16 AM | I havent read through the new item creation rules yet (No need as a player) but from what I understand, the slots are now tied to different abilities (not the D&D abilities) like the head slot for all things with will and intelligence and the boots slot for everything that has to do with movement. When a items does something not associated with the slot it is in it costs 50%(?) more. So, changing the slot costs nothing extra, but having the wrong effect in the wrong slot does. |
| Beamup01-20-05, 09:50 AM | Correct. If it's an "inappropriate slot", it costs 50% more. But that doesn't mean all slot changes cost 50% more. As an example, a resistance bonus to saves usually goes on a cloak (Cloak of Resistance). If you made an Amulet providing a resistance bonus to saves, it would cost the same, because amulets still have a "protection" affinity. But Boots of Resistance would cost 50% more. |
| Callista01-20-05, 10:10 AM | What about changing a wondrous item? For example: Hand of the Mage. Basically a mummified hand that allows you to use Mage Hand at will. Now, stop me if I'm wrong... but is wearing dead body parts something you want to do in polite company? Probably not. Should creating an "amulet of Mage Hand" cost more? |
| Beamup01-20-05, 10:23 AM | No, it'll be the same. As a general rule, "flavor" shouldn't have any impact on the price. |
| tarkin01-20-05, 01:36 PM | Also remember that rings have no affinities - you can put any enchantmet on one without paying a penalty for "wrong slot". That is why Forge Ring is a seperate feat from Wonderous Item and why you have to be a higher level. |
