| 1 ton ghost01-29-08, 07:10 PM | i'm hoping to get some fresh ideas here in terms of weapon use vs. environment, race, feats, etc. to kick this off, please consider: -Profane weapon; normally, this isn't that viable if you're alive, or can afford to take Con dmg every rnd. however, a great many Necropolitan PCs and the like might argue differently. that is, already being dead, they may safely use it to get extra dmg on "every living thing" which is most of the planet's monsters. excluding constructs (not living ones) other undead, things like that, it's like a Bane to everything. -X-Bows over normal Bows; most ppl want the rapid fire succession, Str adjustment, and so forth. but w/ the advent of 3.5's rules for cover, they are significantly less attractive. this is one of the many reasons i like 3.0's cover as there are more degrees thereof, and thusly, more conducive to employing a x-bow. ie)taking a knee, going prone, using varying wall heights, drawing your enemy into prefered territory where bows suck (caves, etc), these are arguements for them. |

You know, a Bow of Blasphemy or Quiver of Lies effect for a crossbow could compensate for slow loading times. No wonder the Pope banned arbalests in the middle ages. |

No wonder the Pope banned arbalests in the middle ages. yeah, i remember reading that back in 2nd Ed's Arms/Equip book. basically, the argument was, "damn, these are easy to use and the peasantry now has a means to kill armored knights at a distance w/out alot of training." ie)a threat to the established feudal system. of course, this timel prohibition was repealed for the Crusades in on again/off again fashion. coincidentally, but i'm sure they're not related at all...;) i suppose this is under the principle that they're Simple Weapons. point and click as it were. easy, cheap, no fuss. |
| Dog_O_War01-30-08, 12:15 PM | I'm not sure what you're asking here; please clarify your question. I will offer this bit of information though. Thanks to Complete Warrior and the PHBII, the light crossbow is one of the best weapons a dex-fighter could use. A fighter with the weapon supremacy path (weapon focus, greater weapon focus, weapon specialization, greater weapon specialization, ranged combat mastery, weapon supremacy) coupled with rapid reload, point blank shot, rapid shot, precise shot, many shot, improved rapid shot, crossbow sniper, and improved critical make for a venerable bolt-throwing machine. |
| 1 ton ghost01-30-08, 01:55 PM | I'm not sure what you're asking here; please clarify your question. various weapons, styles, etc. (they don't have to be just weapons) that coupled w/ unusual circumstances work well or better. the Profane example in question; drains Con when a living person uses it, but an undead one is safe and benefits from a glorified Bane vs. Living creatures when using it. -hand x-bows and thri-kreen ala Gunslinger...or any light weapon for that matter and TWF, etc. -Dugeoncrasher (Ex) w/ Shocktrooper and the like -low BAB caster w/ True Strike and poisoned ranged attacks just, an open-ended "what-if" thread, nothing specific. and if you have a doubt, screw it, post anyway. |
| Ekko01-30-08, 02:44 PM | Well, this isn't so much a loophole, but the following build (and similar ones) is a weapon-chucking machine. Rogue 7/Fighter 1/Ranger 2/Tempest 5/Master Thrower 5. (Greater) Two Weapon Fighting + Rapid Shot + Palm Throw + Speed Enhancemets + Sneak Attack + Rogue's Vest nets you (using throwing axes) a 70d6 full attack, at only a -2 penalty. Add in weapon enhancements to your heart's content. |
