Crescent Knife-sneak attacks [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-24-07, 08:04 AM Hi all,

A friend has recently told me about how you can make two attack rolls & damage each time you attack with it.

I'm a bit confused. Does sneak attack damage apply to both or just the first of the two attacks and would it allow you to make two attacks on a spring attack and so have double sneak attack or scirmish damage? Can someone clarify this.

09-24-07, 09:28 AM There's probably nothing official rule, since the weapon is from old Dragon issue. I'd say if both attacks use the same attack roll, that precision damage (such as sneak attack) is only applied once. Also a critical hit only deals critical damage once.

If it is the same bab, then it is only one set of precision damage (Sneak Attack) for both attacks.

Wouldn't that be "the same attack roll", rather than the same BAB?

It's a really, really bad idea to introduce an item that then becomes a "must-have" for all rogues (or even all TWF-rogues).

1 attack roll, 2 hits, 1 precision based damage roll.

Look at Rapid Shot.

2 attack rolls, 2 hits, 2 precision based damage rolls.

But rapid shot has a penalty to hit. . .

So, not knowing much about the knife. . . I can't give much more of an answer.

Sounds a bit unnecessarily broken, which is pretty standard for anything I've seen from Dragon.

I agree. Balance has never been the strongest in Dragon magazines. Dragon Compendium on the other hand is a quite good compilation.

There is no 3.5 weapon that inherently provides what he is describing.

There are some feats/abilities that are close to what he is describing, but that is not the weapon providing the ability.

If he houserule converted it to 3.5 and left the weapon with that ability, I would have the second attack only get base weapon damage, no str/wpn bonuses at all...including Precision damage only once.
