1) I have a 20 level ranger. I would like to know if there is an item that would allow me to attract an animal companion as if I was a 20th level druid. Or how I could make such an item. Cost is not really a factor.
2) I have heard of the awakening spell. Would the awakened animal still be considered an animal eligible for a companion? Or would I need to get leadership for a follower. (That would suck because i have a crappy Charisma)
3) Could you Awaken a legendary tiger.
4) What kind of items would be good to boost an animal companion. And what would be a good sourcebook for animal enhancing items.
Thanks for any help in advance.

P.S. I am going for Cringer/Battlecat from Masters of the Universe/He-man in case you haven't noticed.

You'll need leadership.

You can't have an awakened creature for an animal companion.

With leadership you'll get a X level cohort. BINGO. Your cohort being awakened does change a few details. Look up the spell and what not in the PHB.

Good luck.

Beyond this...an item might work. If you remember (and I am sure you do) Cringer became battle cat only because Heman had the power through the sword.

Basically, it was a combo of Animal Growth & str & con boosts. Cringer was already an awakened creature.

1.)I believe there is a feat in the Complete Adventurer that might help you. I do not have the book yet, but I believe there is a "obtain animal companion" feat. This might increase your druid level for determining your animal's strength.

2.) No, once you cast awaken the creature becomes a magical beast and can no longer be your animal companion. You would have to take Leadership and figure out the tiger's ECL.

3.) I'm gonna go with a, "No". I say this because a legendary tiger's ECL is probably going to be up in the epic level.

4.) Well if trained properly, a tiger can wear barding. I would go with some magical chain barding, or even fullplate, since he should have the strength. Also a tiger could have bracers, so bracers of armor if you do not want your tiger walking around in armor. Bracers of armor can also be enchanted with any armor enchantment. Instead of an amulet of mighty fists you could make it a collar, still takes up the same slot, just makes more sense. Rings of protection can be used, just make them ear rings, so the tiger has two "ear" rings.
