| krumthi11-24-06, 05:13 PM | I am just pondering if anyone can tell me what weapon ( via magical or normal has the highest crit range and mulitpler and how you would make it if it's magical, Thanks in advanced |
| Bluebrush11-24-06, 05:28 PM | Generally, weapons have either a broader crit range OR higher crit multiplier, almost never both. (There was a great deal of discussion over the Talenta Tangat when the Eberron Campaign Setting was released since it offered a powerful critical of 19-20/x4, which was subsequently erretad down to 19-20/x2.) Broadest crit range for PHB weapons is that of the Rapier or Scimitar at 18-20, which has yet to be exceeded in any splatbooks. You could increase this to 15-20 if you gave it the keen special ability. Best crit multiplier is x4 for the picks and scythes. To my knowledge there is no magic critical multiplier enhancement. Best you're likely to get is keening a x4 weapon. |
| draconic_swine11-24-06, 06:25 PM | Similar to what Bluebrush said, there have been several instances of weapons being printed with a threat range higher than 20 and a multiplier higher than x2, but I'm pretty sure all were later errata'd as typos. You can either get an 18-20/x2 or a x4 for base weapons. Getting the keen enhancement placed on a weapon doubles its threat range. |
| Bluebrush11-24-06, 06:28 PM | Extra info: In 3.0 you could have Improved Critical: Scimitar and a keen scimitar for a stacked crit range of 12-20. As of 3.5, the two do not stack. |
| The Amazing Dancing Bear11-25-06, 12:27 AM | The 3.0 supplement Oriental Adventures had a ninja-to with a crit of 19-29/x2. I'm not sure if it ever got errata'd. If it wasn't, keen would take that down to 9-29. (This also assumes that your DM is Rush Limbaugh or something) Also, both Lotus Crane's Fighter fix (which is amazing, by the way) and the Disciple of Dispater PrC in the Book of Vile Darkness allow keen to stack with Improved Crit. Which is why my level 16 fighter has an 18-20/x4 crit on his +1 keen shocking burst icy burst Large scythe. Madness, I tell you. |
| Vaelan11-25-06, 12:39 AM | The Orcish Shotput was never errataed and it was 19-20/x3. You can never throw more than one of them in a round though. |
| risner11-25-06, 01:17 PM | The Orcish Shotput was never errataed and it was 19-20/x3. You can never throw more than one of them in a round though. It also wasn't reprinted in 3.5 form. |
| Querente11-27-06, 09:40 AM | In Sword & Fist (3.0), you have the bladed gauntlet. A small weapon with a threat range of 17-20x2 ,1d6 damage. It counts as an armed attack. In other words...these weapons ,dual-wielding and even add Tiger Claw school from Book of Nine Swords and you can play your wolverine variant :) EDIT : ok, you can ignore this. Just in case, I checked the Errata, as I found it strange that nobody else mentioned Bladed Gauntlets :). Bladed gauntlets have 19-20 in the Erratta. |
| Ryu Katsuragi11-27-06, 10:19 AM | There is one weapon I remember from Tome of Battle, however, it is a Legacy weapon. It's a keen kukri, with a 15-20/x4 as it's final ability. |
| risner11-27-06, 01:43 PM | There is one weapon I remember from Tome of Battle, however, it is a Legacy weapon. It's a keen kukri, with a 15-20/x4 as it's final ability. WoL weapons don't count, since Legacy weapons are more like PrC. You have a -3 to attack, -10 fort save, and -12 hit points perm loss. It only gets to +1, so compared to a +5 keen kurkri, you are -7 to hit. There isn't anything in a current (3.5) book that has X3 or higher AND 19-20 or better range (without keen) as base stats. There is only one (Orc Shotput) that hasn't been republished or errata to the 3.5 standard. |
| Tharivol_Nailo11-27-06, 02:32 PM | I have a question, Sry for borrowing your thread. Anyway wat is the threat number for a weapoon that just has a multiplier, like bows? |
