| Novacat04-27-07, 12:23 AM | anybody have a good critical fumble chart? That's a contradiction in terms. Critical fumbles accomplish the following: • Increases the overall difficulty of any given combat; • Causes the players to perceive their characters as bumbling klutzes; • Severely weakens the already weak martial combat classes, since rolling more attacks results in more fumbles. This is especially pronounced in dual wielding and archery combat styles; • In my opinion, as a player and as a DM, it reduces the overall fun of the game. However, if fumbling is what floats your boat, ignore this. |
| Ainamacar04-27-07, 12:27 AM | See this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=705211) thread in Regdar's Repository. It talks about pros, cons, and different systems to death. I don't recall any full tables, but I believe some people linked to theirs. |
| RavenCorvus04-27-07, 12:29 AM | anybody have a good critical fumble chart? im not good enough at being a mean DM so ill let the dice be mean. thanks again I would rather fight a ton of things that will kill me in a round that use a critical fumble chart it makes combat so slow, and just ruins the game, the only time I add it in my games when I want my players to actually do something other then go out and slaughter everything |
| j3st3r04-27-07, 04:36 AM | http://www.bastionpress.com/Products/torn.htm Torn Asunder adds more realism to combat, making critical hits able to damage different body parts and add nasty side effects (like broken bones, severed limbs, etc...), that will make even the most seasoned fighter to think twice before letting their guard down and charging foolishly against the unknown. This is a must for everyone who's looking to make even the weakest monsters or the weakest weapons a possible threat to a high leveled party with the toughest of armors and hitpoints enough to last for days against attacks that would in real world drop even an elephant. It also has critical fumbles and lots of more. http://paizo.com/gameMastery/accessories/v5748btpy7wv9 Not sure if this would have fumbles in it also, but sounds rather neat and fast (not to mention deadly) addition to any campaign :D |
| tarkin04-27-07, 11:04 AM | If you want a fumble chart go and get some Rolemaster games. They have better fumble and critical charts than any other game system I have seen. I prefer to use the published rule in the core books: On a natural 1, do a dex check, DC 10. Failure = weapon dropped. |
| kintire04-27-07, 11:12 AM | anybody have a good critical fumble chart? Heres one: when a player rolls a 1 on any attack roll, roll another d20 and consult the below: 1-5 no effect. 6-10 nothing extra happens. 11-15 Attack misses; no additional penalty. 16-19 Weapon not dropped. If missile weapon, string does not break. 20 Freak transdimensional accident swaps your weapon for a completely identical copy from a parallel dimension. |
| silverkitsune04-27-07, 12:14 PM | I use a crit fumble system in my game. a roll of a natural 1 threatens a critical fumble to confirm a critcal fumble roll d20 add Base Attack number If you roll get a 15 or over it is not a critical hit I find this system doesn't penalize warrior types for having more attacks because by level 14 they are nearly immune to fumbles (two natural 1's in a row is still a fumble) I don't have my chart with me to post but many of the effects also allow a saving throw. |

I liked their fumble charts, in a twisted sort of way. Slicing comrades shines, my bro shooting himself in the arm with a x-bow ( no idea how ) and.....( 1 round later ) dang it that pixie in the corner got me staring at it again, if only...( 6 rounds later ) ahh forget it. :) |
| Sphyre04-27-07, 05:20 PM | See this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=705211) thread in Regdar's Repository. It talks about pros, cons, and different systems to death. I don't recall any full tables, but I believe some people linked to theirs. Well, the reason why I didn't post any tables in that post is because the mathematical conclusion is that it's ultimately too much work (at least for someone who doesn't love the idea of killing yourself) to try to implement a 'realistic' fumble system. Although, many people in the thread did decide to take it as an opportunity to shamefully link to their tables. None of them seemed to actually address the issues presented in the original post though. 20 Freak transdimensional accident swaps your weapon for a completely identical copy from a parallel dimension. that's almost exactly what I was going to post :D |
