| Aggrenox04-10-07, 12:46 PM | Hey all, So I know that some people on these boards don't like critical tables and fumbles and such, but, My players have asked and I would like to provide. It all came up when one of my players was criticly hit by a gnoll arrow. I confirmed the crit and told him, "An arrow digs into your side, It hurts something fierce as blood pours from the wound. You take 15 Points of damage." After which he asks me if it was a critical hit, I told him yes. Then he asked, well, what does that mean (Newer Player). I told him that the hit was just more effective and he took more damage. Then we digressed for two hours about how an arrow in your side would suck. And the group has asked me to figure out some more critical options. So here is a thread. Any one have any Idea's? |

That may help you get better responses. My recommendation would be to check for third party resources, in either case actually. Black Co has a brutal crit system, and you could remove some of the brutallity to add extra spice to crits, and theres an old RPG book on crits/fumbles that was bizarre that a frined used for a few years...I really hated fumbling and staring at that pixie in a corner for a few rounds . Now I'll have to ask him what that was...( shudders ) |
| Aggrenox04-10-07, 01:37 PM | Yeah, descriptions and effects. I know there are third party stuffs. I just thought this something fun to do in the forum, as well. |
| tarkin04-10-07, 01:50 PM | You desire to play Rolemaster. It has lots and lots of tables like this. You could steal some and insert into WoTC game if you desire. (Note, they actually have a 'super-critical' system. The 1 is only mean, the 100 is super nasty, but the number 66 is a also super nasty. This allows you to have special powers such as "Improved Critical: You may add OR subtract one to your critical roll" instead of always having +'s being good.) |
| LordAurther04-10-07, 01:51 PM | The Halfling Rogue, weilding his Longsword of fellow party member doom rushes into combat. Promptly rolls a 1 followed by another 1 and cleaves his fellow party member(Fighter)'s sword arm off at the elbow. Assuring that his days as the party rogue are few and numbered. I did this three days before I had to leave for bootcamp. LOL |
| narukagami04-10-07, 01:56 PM | There is one problem with this sort of thing: The HP System. Fighter Bob has 150hp, Fighter Bob gets crit'ed with an arrow, you describe it as you did above, with the arrow coming out his side, blood gushing out, it hurting like hell, ect. However, the crit only did 30 points of damage to Fighter Bob. Fighter Bob, despite being described as having a nearly fatal and debilitating wound, still has 120 hp left. Fighter Bob, mechanically, is fine. This does not make sense. |

| Jack Greylock04-10-07, 02:20 PM | Our DM brought the new Crit deck from Gamemastery to our game last night, very cool. It is a deck of cards and when you Crit an enemy you draw a card and look at the appropriate line on the card (slashing, piercing, bludgeoning, or magic) and check the effect. It worked very well, and added some interesting color to the game. Lets see um one of them that happened was Overreaction which was damage plus everyone who threatened the enemy got an Attack of Opportunity. Very cool, check them out. |
