This 1e item has given me quite some headaches lately, as I would like to use it in my campaign...what is its equivalence in 3e?
In 1e it made all ranges short and had a +3 modifier on THAC0 and damage.

I tried comparing it with a Crossbow+3 of Distance(DMG), which gives it double range increments and a +4 modifier, but that is not exactly it(worth 32000 GP)

The epic ability Distant Shot could be used, but not only is this ability more powerful(it makes everyone within the line of sight possible targets) and it makes the item and epic one nonetheless with a price of 1.62 million GP? That is something I`d like to avoid:)

BTW, in 1st ed and 2nd ed it only gave a +3 to hit, not both to hit and damage.

For 3rd/3.5 ed I would just create an Accuracy ability for ranged weapons which eliminates all range increment penalties (to replace the makes all ranges short ability) for a +1 cost.

Then use the normal rules for creating +1 to +5 ranged weapons.

I don't know about that. In 1st edition there were only three ranges(short, medium, or long), now there are ten. If memory serves, the range also went up quite a bit as a result of this.
I'm not saying it couldn't be done, I'm just saying that a +1 seems low to me.
On the other hand, nothing says accuracy like +5 to hit. :)
... Except true strike, but I'm not going there. ;)

I could have sworn that Distance was a +1 enhancement and doubled the range increment.

Edit: Ooops, I misread the original post. Carry on.

Further Edit: Hey, just make a +2 Distance that triples the range increment. So basically, if you have a 70ft range increment bow with the +2 Distance, it'll be a 210ft range increment bow. That's plenty far enough to hit anybody.

So, with the +2 Distance, you'd be able to take a -5 to the attack roll to hit someone 1,260 ft away. That's what, a fifth of a mile? Maybe a little more?

In 1e:
-5 was the penalty for long range
-2 was the penalty for short range
+3 was the bonus to THAC0
Light Crossbow was 6 "tens of yards" (180 ft) range per range increment.
Heavy Crossbow was 8 "tens of yards" (240 ft) range per range increment.

Max range on Light Crossbow = 540 ft (1e) and 800 ft (3.5e).
Max range on Heavy = 720 ft (1e) and 1200 ft (3.5e).

That puts the max range of the old system at around 6 to 6.75 range increments of the new.
So in 3.5e mechanics 5 range increments * -2 is -10 penalty at the max range of the 1e system in a 3.5e system.

So this weapon gave you bonuses equal to +3/+5/+8 for the short/medium/long progression in 1e.

To duplicate in 3.5e, you would need these bonuses at the first 6 ranges:
+3/+5/+7/+9/+11/+13

The average is +8, so maybe move it lower and make it a
+5 Crossbow? 50,000 pp

You might be happy with this:
+3 Crossbow (18000+MW cost)

Ignore all range increment penalties:
Use Spell Compendium's Ranger spell Guided Shot as a basis, but
don't make it cast the spell. Just take the "no range penalties" effect
from the spell.
3 (caster level) * 1 (spell level) * 2000 (continuous item)
* 4 (for continuous spell measured in rounds) = 24000 gp
Maybe half it since you are not getting the whole effect of the spell: 12000gp

Combine the two for +3 Crossbow of no range penalties for 30000gp
