I asked a very similar question not too long ago.

Is there any mention in a Dnd book about a crossbow scope or would this need to be a homebrewed item.

I imagine if it was it would need to be some combination of a spyglass and gnome crossbow sights.

And then there's the ever present danger of it being damaged and needing repair or replacement.

Any help that can be provided is greatly appreciatied.

I believe the scope is int he Arms adn Equipment Guide. Ignore the first one or two penalties for range, or something.

If I recall correctly, it also lets you sneak attack from a range of 60' instead of 30' when using the scope.

Crossbow Sight, Gnome (Page 36 of the Arms and Equipment guide, right side, near the top). And its only the range increment change, there's no sneak attack adjustment. The feat however, does modify the SA range.

Yeah, I'm not aware of any actual scope. The gnomish xbow sight is the closest thing available through official channels.

i agree with these guys, there are mentions of it, but really, a crossbow doesnt have a large enough range for a needed scope... if you want a telescopic sight, you could tie a telescope to it, but otherwise, telescopic scopes werent invented untill after muskets were... so if you want telescopic scopes, and a weapon that actually could use one, then allow the party to use muskets and other primative firearms

not sure if it would work. there's a whole lot of play in the placement and trajectory of an x-bow bolt. it's not as refined a ray as a bullet traveling down a smooth or rifled barrel and only that barrel's space.
i've seen scopes on contemporary x-bows, but we're talking 20-21st century now, not proto-renaissance.
but, for game simplicity, i guess just use Arms and Equip's version thereof.

actually we never even discussed the time period... usually the setting is the dark ages....or some time around then.... either way, a cross bow doesnt have the range to even need a scope
