If I am a 6th level crusader so (i think book is at home) I know 7 moves, can have 5 readied at any time and am granted 2 at the start of combat could I choose to only ready 2 moves so that they would be granted and renewed every turn?

I may be wrong but I don't know if there is anything that suggests you can choose to ready less moves than your allowed if you want to?

Cheers for any suggestions

Keep in mind that I don't know anything about the crusader, but I don't see any reason why not. You're deliberately not using your class abilities to their full potential, and that should be your choice. I'd think it's like how a wizard doesn't have to prepare all of his spell slots.

I would say no. One of the "features" of the Crusader is that while they may ready 7 maneuvers (in the above example), only 2 of them -- chosen at random -- are available at the start of any combat. The other side of this is that when the Crusader only has 1 maneuver remaining, all of his maneuvers refresh and 2 of them are randomly made available. This is a weakness of the class, that their maneuvers are random "gifts" from whatever higher power fuels the Crusader.

By choosing to ready only two maneuvers, you would be playing against the inherent nature of the class. Certain maneuvers are more powerful than others -- by readying only your two most powerful maneuvers you would not be "deliberately not using your class abilities", you would be abusing your class abilities.

Yep and its completly legal. There is no rule saying you must ready all the manouvers available to you.

Of course a gm is allways able to just make a house rule that you must ready a certain number every fight. But that would be a house rule only.

There are ways to prevent or lower the side effects for every class if you work hard enough ;) Crusaders just gimp their ability to do a wide array of manouvers to do the lower number more often.

Actually...

Tome of Battle:The Book of Nine Swords, page 38, the last sentence of the last paragraph under Readying Maneuvers:
Unlike a wizard preparing her spells, you cannot choose to leave a readied maneuver slot unfilled.

all you have to do is not use any manuevers for the first few rounds of battl,e and then from then on you can use your favorite manuever over and over again.

Only if you follow CustServ and ignore the book.

CustServ says you recover only your expended maneuvers and are granted your new ones from that set... while the book's example (sidebar, page 38) distinctly shows you recovering ALL your maneuvers (thus losing the ones you didn't spend) and being granted your new ones from that set.

SO I guess none of us should ever listen to CustServ right?

Some of their clarifications are fine (for instance, Searing Blade should have a swift action initiation like all other boosts). Others directly contradict the book or produce ZOMGBROKEN effects (like crusader recovery or White Raven targeting).

They're in the Take With A Salt Lick category for the most part.

How bad does the Crusader become if using the reasonable interpretation?

Cheers Azoriel I'd read that section two-three times and just not noticed it....

Ah well, have to wait a few rounds for the rolling shield block every round :(

Where they can get the same manuever over and over again every turn.

Hmmmm... let's see

Dealing 2d6 Con damage every turn

or

Being able to cast heal every turn

or

being able to make everyone charge a foe, with no AoOs, and extra damage plus a stun every turn (granted it would require multiple foes, but they'd all be dead in no time with that.

Kinda ridiculous.

Nonononono.... he asked if using the REASONABLE interpretation.

Loads of fun. It's a finely-made class that tanks extremely well and is a blast to play.

Glad to be of help; truth be told, I wouldn't have noticed it myself had I not seen it in an older thread very similar to this one. (Before that, crusader seemed like a no-brainer for anyone wanting to rely on a single maneuver to do the damage for them.)
