50 coins weights 1lbs, so each coin weighs 1/50th lbs.

Do you want the character to thrown individual coins, a handful of coins, or sacks of gold at people?

For individual or handfuls of coins, maybe use the stats for a Shuriken as a starting point?

according to Complete Warrior's rules for improvised weapons:

average coin
light improvised weapon
damage: none
range increment: 10 feet
weigth: 1/50th of a pound (1/3 of an ounce if I'm correct)
price: 1cp/1sp/1gp/1pp

sack of 50 coins
light improvised weapon
damage: 1d3 bludgeoning
crit: 20/x2
range increment: 10 feet (I wouldn't throw them though)
weigth: 1 pound
price: 50cp/50sp/50gp/50pp

sack of 500 coins
one-handed improvised weapon
damage: 1d6 bludgeoning
crit: 20/x2
weigth: 10 pound
price: 500cp/500sp/500gp/500pp

big sack of 2500 coins
two-handed improvised weapon
damage: 2d6 bludgeoning
crit: 20/x2
weigth: 50 pounds
price: 2500cp/2500sp/2500gp/2500pp
