It's like having Bestow Curse practically at will...several times a round. Am I just way off base on this one? |

| Satori10-06-05, 07:13 PM | I believe there was a misunderstanding. You see, a Curse Spewing weapon is really quite simple...it swears and curses at your opponents as they're struck. This can be quite demoralizing, and you can add racial, momma, poor, and ugly insults at only +1 per category. As you can see, I have nothing important to add and no way to answer your question. |
| RavenDrake10-07-05, 01:49 AM | Well... yes and no. Yes, every time the weapon deals damage the subject has to make a save or be cursed. However, the curse if very specific. Suffer a -4 Morale penalty to attacks, saves, and Skill/ability checks. The Morale part is key. Since it's a named penalty, it shouldn't stack with itself just like named bonuses don't, which limit's it's usefulness.... Of course, as DM you're free to limit the usefullness of the weapon (Impose a higher cost, like +3, or limit it's use per day, for example it affects each attack, but can only dispense 3 such curses per day....) or forbit content from the BoVD entirely. Unless, of course, you were planning on splatting them with Vile damage. |
| Griff_Goodbeard10-07-05, 08:37 AM | IIRC it also has a non- scaling save DC that limits it's usefulness at higher levels |
| Keenath10-07-05, 11:01 AM | Griff is correct; the low save DC makes it pretty weak after a while, but see below. I think it's definitely overpowered for +1. A good strategy would be to combine a warrior with one of these and a caster who specializes in save-heavy spells; the -4 attack stops your target from effectively dealing damage, and the -4 on saves makes it much easier for the caster to do his thing. Now, it's a solid +1 if each target became immune to the curse for 24 hours after a successful save (one try per target, y'see) or the curse had a stated duration (preferably one hour or less). As written it could be a good +2, maybe. The curse obviously doesn't stack with itself, but repeated hits means the target will eventually fail, and I find it annoying that it doesn't specify the mechanics of the curse -- is it "as Bestow Curse", where you have to get a Remove Curse or Break Enchantment to remove it, or is it a one day, or one minute, or what? Is it permanent and unremoveable? It ought to say. |
