okay, using the rules givin in the DMG for item creation, for a competence bonus to a skill, you take the bonus, squared, times 100gp. Is that correct? If so, then I can make a Ring of device Mastery (+15 UMD) with a market price of 22,500 gp, and it would cost me 11k something in gold to make using Craft Wondrous Item? Is this correct? If not, please reference the ruleset where I should be looking. Thanks

Yes, you priced it right. But if it's a ring, you would use Forge Ring, not Craft Wondrous Item.

But... there are no official items that grant a general bonus to UMD. That might be for a reason.

Well, DMG came out way before the Artificer class came out, so that can't be used as a reason for no specific UMD items...I mean, there's A LOT of things that aren't officially done item wise. You're right on that feat, thx. Is there a limit to the bonus able to be gotten from an item, without making it Epic?

The max non-epic bonus is +30, I believe.

There is a craft rule for weapon/armor/abilities enhancements; you have to be level*3 of the max enhancement you can make. So for Gauntlets os Str +2 or longsword +2 you would have to be lvl 6 CASTER. I dont know the rule for skills, but you should check it out.

It is not stated in the rules.

The DM is supposed to figure out the pre-reqs themselves.

HOWEVER...

An examination of the items in the DMG indicate that caster you should not be able to create something whose bonus to a skill exceeds your caster level.

To get the +30, I would suggest you need a spell that grants that kind of bonus and have at least 20 ranks yourself.

but RAW doesn't state any kinda of prereq's? Other than gp, and xp. The Caster Level thing I can understand definately....but what's the RAW about it?
