I am always looking to make better items then what is in the book, make that praticular magic item better, but usually the new item is cheaper.

Take the courtier garb in the relics and rituals 2 it gives the wearer +3 charisma, +3 dexterity and +5 natural armor. This item costs 68,000.

I created the same item with +6 charisma, +6 dexterity, and +5 natural armor. It only cost 31,500. Am I doing it wrong?

Oh and I would like to put a spell on an item so it works continually how would that work? How about unlimited times/day?

Am I doing it wrong?Note that the "Estimating Magic Item Gold Piece Values" section in the DMG is NOT balanced, and it isn't intended to be freely used by PC's. There are abuses far greater than this available.

Those tables are meant to simply give some guidelines to DM's wanting to create new items. The DM is the final arbiter on the price for these new items, and needs to take balance into account.

I am the DM and I can't see spending insane amounts of gold for items expecialy if the really don't do to much ex. I beleive it's called satin sash from magic of faerun, +2 deflection (could be better), hand fire 1/day (could use a couple more times a day cause spell isn't that great).

If I boosted it, it would cost way less...If i uped the price to be better then the published version it would be too costly....

If we start with an Amulet of Natural armour as base price, that's 50.000 gp for +5 naural armour bonus. Then we add +6 dex and cha..each of these are worth 36.000 gp.
Since it's multiple different abilities, each of the ones adding onto the most expencive one gets it's price increased by 150%.

So you'd end up with 50.000 + (36.000 * 1.5 ) + (36.000 * 1.5) = 158.000 gp.

EDIT : of course, if you made it yourself, it'd only cost you half the money, but that's the market price.

Figuring out prices for magic items is tricky business, easy to get it wrong :)
