07-22-06, 10:09 AM OK ... I thought that I had it but now I'm not so sure. How do I price custom magic items?

For instance if a character wants to build an Amulet of Health +2 that also casts Prestidigitation at will and Cure Light Wounds 1/day what would the cost be? We will call it the Amulet of Healthy Living.

As I see it the base costs are:
Amulet of Health +2 = 4000 gp
Prestidigitation at will = .5 * 1 * 2000 = 1000 gp
CLW 1/day = 1 * 1 * 1800 / 5 = 360 gp

The item takes up a body slot. Even though it sort of has an overall theme some of the stuff doesn't match very well so I don't think that the similar function discount would apply. So what then?

Is the final cost 5360 gp, 6040 gp, 9360 gp, 10040 gp, or something else?

I can't tell whether or not to double the most expensive cost or if the secondary costs should be multiplied by 1.5 or not.

A big part of the cost from the Ioun Stone is that it's slotless, it wouldn't cost anywhere near that much on a slotted item. Prestidigitation... does it even do anything mechanically? The most I've used it for is just to do random nonsensical things, I'd say 1000 is about right for it, not 1800. Hat of Disguise is far more useful.

I'd say the innitial estimate of 6040 total should work. I'd round it off to an even 6000 or if you're feeling stingy up to 6500. No more.

Fixing the Ioun Stone x2, but I still disagree with your 6k price.

So you think Prestig is worth 1500 (1000 * 1.5) but you think the CLW 1/day is only worth 667 gp? That is seriously flawed.

If I went along with your 1000 for prestig here is the new workout:

4,000 (+2 enhancement CON)
+
1,000 (prestig)
*
1.5 (Multiple Different Abilities)
+
1,875 (CLW 1/day; in line with power of Ioun 20k for 24hp/day)
*
1.5 (Multiple Different Abilities)
=
8,313 gp

Round to 8,400 gp?
