I came up with this idea a couple of months ago. It is largely impractical for mid-level PCs because it costs way too much and could only be used a few times, but it would make an interesting weapon for an NPC villain.

First, you need a rod of many wands. Next you stuff it with wands of scorching ray (caster level 11). Now, put it in the hands of an incantatrix of at least 5th level with the feat "twin spell" and fire away. This should give you 72d6 damage split among 18 rays.

Useless? Usefull?

Nice, but you're right about the cost. It would cost 75,000 to craft the wands or 150,000 to purchase them. And you would burn through them fast. Each ray would burn four charges though, equating to 12.5 rounds of "ammo", or 6000 gp per blast (average about 3000 hp damage total summing those 12 rounds).

With dual wand weilder and another fully loaded rod, you could fire off 36 rays in one round! :)

It would also work great for an artificer.

And don't forget Energy Substitution!

You know, the fact you're limited to 12 rounds with such a huge amount of gold actually makes this balanced. It's a last-resort-fry-the-BBEG type thing.

I am so giving this one to an NPC someday.

well I am not to familiar with the mechanics but it certainly sounds impressive. The cost component might keep it from being practical, though as a last ditch weapon it could certainly have merits.

If you are using a Rod of Many Wands then there is no way I would let Dual Wand Wielder work.

You are activating the ROD, the rod then activates the wands.

You should no more be able to use Dual Wand Wielder than if you had a cohort and gave him a wand. The cohort can not benefit from your feats and neither should the Rod.

Similarly, as you are not using the wands themselves, but are instead using the Rod, I am not even sure an incantatrix's abilities would work, using a realistic reading of her abilities. It may very well be too indirect.

The Wand of Everything, with a command word of Abracapocalypse. Good times. It seems pretty good, but another idea would be to just get a spell weaver and get it to take levels in Force Missile Mage. That works out to 42 missiles at once, and they can recharge the power every day. Sure you only do 42d4+42 damage, but that still amounts to quite a bit, and it ALWAYS hits.
