would it be overpowered to change a Dagger of Manyfangs into a elven lightblade?

For those of you who don't know, a Manyfang Dagger deals quadruple damage on any successful hit (quintuple on a critical!). The dagger is +1 and costs 32,302. It may thus be inferred that the property either costs 28,000gp or is a +3 equivalent. My money is on +3 equivalent.

I don't normally go around telling people that things are overpowered, but I think that this is sufficiently cheesy. The dagger is overpowered, so applying the same property to any other weapon would result in something even more overpowered.

Incidentally, the Manyfang Dagger isn't even the worst material in that book.

you mean because there is a little creature known as Sarrukh in that same book? I guess that most DMs that run Forgotten Realms games ban Serpent Kingdom just because of that creature...

Yep.

No need to throw the baby out with the bath water. Quadruple damage weapons and polymorph forms that allow genetic manipulation are pretty bad, but they are just as easy to pick out and disallow on a case-by-case basis.
