I was thinking about how to rule an attack where a grappler pins someone to a table or a wall with a dagger (think Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in the bar fight scene in Terminator 2). I know there's a Ranged Pin feat in the Complete Warrior, but I'm looking for something to do damage to the person pinned as well.

First, I figure the attacker would need to have already grappled the opponent and maintained the pin for at least one round. I'm thinking to initiate the attack, he would need to roll an attack roll (successfully) followed by a grapple check. The dagger attack would do normal damage, and if the attacker wins the grapple, he pins the opponent with the dagger. This grapple check would stay, and the defender would have to make repeated checks against this number to break free (leaving the attacker free to do other things). Perhaps the defender would get a +4 on the grapple check if the attacker abandons the dagger. As an option, the defender could instead just take additional dagger damage (equal to an attack performed by the attacker, with all of the previous modifiers) to automatically break free (leaving the dagger stuck in the table, wall, or whatever).

Anyway, how does that seem for a first attempt? Does it seem like a doable idea? It certainly leaves several questions unanswered:

How big of a weapon can be used like this (I would think only light, piercing weapons)?
Would a flaming weapon do damage each round?
Are there any obvious ways to abuse this?

So, any critisism or suggestions would be appreciated! :D

Nothing, huh?

Does it seem reasonable as written? Is the idea all the good, for that matter?
