| Cavilier10206-16-07, 07:16 PM | First off i will admit this is inspired by a bit too much Naruto but I'm trying to figure out the price and exact abilities of exploding daggers. Now all I have is the SRD and The weapon building it has confuse me a bit. What I am trying for is daggers that do 1D6 fire damage, or even more, but are destroyed in the process. Looking around I was thinking of something like an alternate shocking grasp on contact. It will be a while before we could make anything like this in our game but I want to start planing now. I thank you all now for your response. |

EDIT: ...Unless you actually want to hit them in the face, which would probably make your own hand explode, too. I dunno. I haven't watched the show. |

They explode in a 5ft radius blase for 2d4 damage(with a reflex save for half). Quite frankly, the diffence between the Shuriken's d2 and the daggers d4 is so minimal that they'd make excellent substitutes for the kunai a la Naruto. If you just want the weapon to do fire damage, then going with Flaming or Flaming Burst would work pretty well. |
| Sajek06-17-07, 11:26 AM | I believe you want the Frost Shard Dagger from A&E Guide. Basically, it does dagger damage on the first hit, but then explodes for 3d6 cold damage in a five foot radius. It shouldn't be too difficult to custom-craft a variant made of obsidian or something that deals fire damage. |
| Elana06-17-07, 11:33 AM | Without watching the show or thinking two hard, I can see two easy possibilities. First make a magical weapon with the flaming (additonal +1) or even flaming burst property (+2) A flaming weapon deals 1D6 pointsof fire damage with each hit, a flaming burst increases that to 1d10 on a critical hit. (Without hurting the wielder) Or make a spell storing weapon and put some fire spell in it before you use it. (Only use fireball if you have fire immunity ;) ) |
| Prince_of_Parkness06-17-07, 02:05 PM | For everyone who doesnt watch naruto this is an explosive tag wrapped around the handle of a throwing knife (kunai). The explosive tag can then be activated either at will by focusing their chakra (say a move equivilent action) or by setting fire to it before throwing it (it generally tacks about 2 seconds to explode after being ignited) |
| Dark1ord06-17-07, 02:24 PM | A flaming weapon deals 1D6 pointsof fire damage with each hit, a flaming burst increases that to 1d10 on a critical hit "increases"? the d10 is in addition to the regular d6 (also, maybe more d10s, depending on multiplier). not sure if you meant that or not. |

Just cast explosive runes on the dagger, and throw it into your enemy. When he glances at it, or when you cast dispel magic and voluntarily fail your check, BOOM! Alternatively, shrink item on a bonfire. Turn the bonfire into a piece of paper. Attach the piece of paper to dagger. Throw dagger into your enemy. Say the magic words (or dispel magic). Now he's on fire. |
| Anodai06-17-07, 03:20 PM | Cany you also cause esxplosive runes to trigger when someone touches them? and cant you also have them not blow up for certian people? |
| InkBlot06-17-07, 05:36 PM | You can't have explosive runes trigger by touch. The runes can only be triggered two ways - by reading them or by failing to disable them. You can set the runes so that certain people (any number of people, chosen by you) can read the runes without triggering them. |
| Nom06-17-07, 10:23 PM | Price the magic component as ammunition. +1 flaming is normally 8k, so that becomes 8000 / 50 = 160 gp base price per dagger. If you're feeling generous, you could price the masterwork component using ammo rules as well, since these things are obviously not built for extended use. |
